bbp182 (255), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 27, 2008 Look - golden lager color. Little copper.
Smell - smoky smell. Very good.
Taste - wow, bbq/burnt/smokey flavor to it. Very good lager. Flavorful, different. Nothing but the best from Victory. WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 5, 2006 I’m not sure how much of my lack of enthusiasm comes from drinking from a growler that had been filled days earlier. Nose of sweet malts and light smoke, less smoke than I would have expected from a Scottish ale (association based on color) and far less than I would have expected from a full rauchbier. Amber to copper color, small head, minimal lacing, pretty average looking. Sweet malts, minimal hops, caramel, again only light smoke. Average mouthfeel, slightly dry and nutty, offsetting the sweetness of the malts. I liked it, but I didn’t love it. TomDecapolis (3130), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 5, 2006 On tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy orange/amber with a small off white head that did not leave much lacing and did not sustain. Aroma of light smoke, sweat malts and some caramel. Flavor smoked meats, bready, some caramel, light hop presence, sweat grainy malts. egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 30, 2006 Poured a hazy brown / amber color with a small, off white head that left no lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, light clove, smoked meats, and nuts. Taste of the same, with a salty meat, and lightly metallic taste. Heavy carbonation on this one. axilla (962), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 16, 2005 Old notes from brewpub. Poured clear copper colored body with a small, bubbly white head. Malty aroma with a subtle smoke hint. Flavor is carmel malts and smoke with a small hop kick. Different but good. Worthy of taking home a growler. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA May 17, 2004 Rated from notes. Had this last fall in Downingtown. Amber colored, with a smoky, malt aroma and flavor. Interesting style, but an acquired taste. tbookman (618), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 25, 2003 Nice copper color with a thin head. Noticeable smokiness among the malts with a slight hop crunch. Smokiness was pretty mild - more mild than expected. Not bad though. ConiseurofBeer (241), Downingtown, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 20, 2003 The beer I had was just called Victory rauchbier I didn't see anything about scarlet fire, but I'm assuming it's the same beer. I was just an average beer from Victory, but their average beer is a hell of a lot better than most other beers around. It had a nice malt front with a little hops finish. Could use more hops to help balance the malt.
