3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Caponeís. Pours a clear golden orange with a huge whitish head that recedes slowly with moderate lacing and good retention. The aroma is a fresh smokehouse, with biscuity malts that provide a nice complement to the smokiness. Taste is smokey up front with a caramel malt backbone. Notes of lemon with grassy hops and a touch of citrus along with grainy hay lies in the finish and seems to linger a bit with the smoke. Medium body, smooth, moderate fizzy carbonation.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
My Bottom Line:
Beechwood smoke evokes bacon bits at times, while mild oranges diversify this compelling, very drinkable Rauchbier.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the misty amber.
-The flavor profile is exactly what the aroma had suggested.
-The mouthfeel is smooth, not too dry, not too sweet.
-This is pretty authentic a Rauchbier. Makes me want to return to Franconia yet again!
On tap at Parker Pie, Vermont.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Maybe the best American rauchbier I?ve had. Lots of flavor behind the smoke. Not as bacony as Aecht Schlenkerla, which is fine. Crisper than some of the American attempts at the style.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at Joe Canals West Deptford.
Appearance: Clear amber body with a creamy light tan head, excellent retention.
Aroma: The aroma is of campfire with a touch of pine and oak and hints of fruity esters.
Taste: Some fruity esters into a campfire taste that comes off a bit like burnt plastic that overlie a light caramel sweetness.
Palate: Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Iíve only had a few smoked beers, but the ones Iíve had have come off more like smoked meats. This comes off a touch chemical. Not a fan.

Light rauchbier. Smoke dialed back to fit with lighter body. Empty finish leaves you wondering when the fire went out

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at BTBF. A reminder that my ratings are hedonistic, and I am scoring it to my preferences and not necessarily how I would score it per style. Pours with a clear bronze hued body with a white head. Aromas are smoke, earthy, bacon. Moderate malt complexity past the smoke. Somewhat cleanish yeast character. Flavors are smokey, earthy and nutty with a clean yeast character. Can be a bit harshly smokey at times, a bit earthy. Lively carbonation, off dry. All smoke.

Draught. The look is reddish in color with a decent head. The smell is smoked ham, caramel, malt, and good. The taste is smoke, leather, hickory, and ham. A super ham beer.
