Oakes (6529), Miami Beach, Canada May 1, 2003 Bright copper. Light aroma - only the vaguest smoke, munich malts. Lightish body, again just faint smoke underpinning a slightly toasty, caramelly vienna. hopscotch (4214), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Apr 29, 2003 Deep, crystal clear golden/amber hue. Very little head. Small, white and fizzy. Quickly diminishing.
The aroma is only slightly smokey. Beechwood. Also, some citrusy notes. Very mild aroma for a rauchbier.
The flavor is very malty and lightly smokey up front. Not sweet for a second. Balanced out nicely by a lightly tart and tangy hop presence on the backside.
Medium-bodied with an oily mouthfeel. Lively carbonation. Medium-length, dry, astringent finish.
Very nice beer! However, if you're a fan of heavily smoked beer, pass this one up. This is no Alaskan Smoked Porter or Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock. DocLock (3930), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA May 17, 2004 Rated from notes. Had this last fall in Downingtown. Amber colored, with a smoky, malt aroma and flavor. Interesting style, but an acquired taste. Eyedrinkale (3013), Beer Town, New York, USA May 1, 2008 On tap at George Keeley. Amber with a small head but this bartender can’t pour beer for shit, so... Anyway, nice smokey aroma with a mellow hoppiness. The flavor isn’t punch you in the mouth smoke but it’s in there fo’ sure. Sweet without being sticky with a nice caramel flavor. austinpowers (2813), New York, New York, USA May 5, 2003 Smoke??? Where is it? Instead, I taste Canadian bacon, but it's quite subtle. Victory really blew this and needs to either add more smoke or rename this Bacon Beer.
