technically i think Victory calls it a Rauchweizenbock. pours hazy orange with a 2-finger fluffy off-white head and lots of lacing. aroma of beef jerky and orange. light spice and banana as well. i’m also picking up green pepper. flavor is smoky, citrusy, apricot, spices. lingering citrus, pepper and smoke in the aftertaste. intriguing and different, but done very well.

Poured a murky golden / light brown color with a medium sized, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of banana, clove, smoke, light citrus, vanilla, and wood. Taste of citrus fruits, vanilla, banana, clove, burnt wood, smoked meats, and black pepper, with a bit of alcohol in the finish. Carbonation was a little high for my liking here.

Enjoyed at Fountainhead in Chicago, IL two days prior to running in the Chicago Marathon. Appearance cloudy brown with a thin head, served in a snifter glass. Aroma faint, slight smoke, malts. Taste is of a great rauchbier, flavors include smoked deli meats and malt. Very good stuff.

On tap at Fountainhead Chicago. Pours cloudy cola brown with little head but leaves small but persistent lacing. Flavor notes I detected were brown sugar and polish sausage with a hearty whole grain aftertaste that I found very pleasing despite the fact that I don’t usually like heavily grainy notes. Very rich in flavor without feeling too heavy or boozed up.

On tap at Victory. Pours a lightly hazy amber with lots of golden notes and a medium creamy off white head that laced. Aroma of banana, clove, great smokey notes, wheat and kind of sweet. Flavor was pretty much a match of the aroma. Again a touch on the sweet side...but at 7.4% that is expected.

On tap at Victory. Poured a medium and lighlty hazy golden color with a very small sized head. Aromas of smoke (camp fire and smoked meats) with some banana coming through. Tastes of smoke (but not as strong as in the aromas), some fruitiness, and spices.

On tap at Rustico - Alexandria. Served in a stange. Pours a deep ruddy brown without much of a head at all. A good swirl rouses up a single-finger head with some off white to tan coloring, though that refuses to stick around for very long. The nose brings some nice banana and clove along with some roasted malt and a tad bit of smoke. The taste acts in the same manner, as the German yeast characteristics sit well alongside a bit of roasted malt, and then the smoke and slight meaty characteristics really don’t come forward until the finish. The finish is fairly dry and leaves a nice smoky taste covering my palate. Drinks quite well as this is really well done and the whole beer experience follows a nice progression from weizen to rauchbier. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-29-2010

I’ve never had anything quite like this ... a smoked wheat beer. I guess the name is a hybrid of Scarlet Fire smoked lager and Moon Glow wheat. Nose and taste of cloves and pepper, sweet fruit of the Moon Glow with smoke. Interesting. Big wheat head, moderate lacing. I left with a growler and will rerate at some point over the next couple of days.

Tap at Barcade. Hazy golden-amber beer. Aroma is lightly smokey, soft spicy maltiness with a kiss of banana yeastiness. The smoke seems to come more in the form of yeasty phenolics rather than actual rauch malt. Crisp spicy yeast character over some nice rich wheaty malts. Pretty nice brew.

Had this on draft.Poured an hazy golden color with a small white head.Aromas were of light banana, apple and smoke. The taste had some hints of spice, clove, wheat and then on the finish I got the smoke.A very unusual beer, something I have never had before, but would definetly enjoy from time to time.
