COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A dark and roasty porter, this beer pours a deep black with a chocolate colored head. Aroma leads with a lovely meld of beech wood smoke and nice roast, chocolate notes. Flavor is a complex blend of roast malts, chocolate malts, smooth oat character, and well-balanced smoke malt.

A little disappointed for a beer from Victory. Light in all aspects. Folder than any domestic swill.

Draft at Kraftwork on 2/17/11. Pours a dark chestnut brown color with faint mahogany edges and a half finger off-white head that quickly fades into a very thin lasting ring. Minimal lacing. Slightly toasty aroma with lots of sweet malt character especially caramel, rye and toffee. Not as smokey as expected given the name with subtle hints of charcoal and bacon. Smells more like a toasty brown ale. Medium bodied with a smokier profile than the aroma suggests with hints of charcoal, bacon and BBQ but the smokiness doesn’t dominate letting the other flavors shine through. Hints of caramel, rye, toffee and hazelnut with nice bitter hops up front and subtle spice. Decent balance but not as smokey as I prefer. It’s still pretty good, however, wit some rauchy flavor as well as some sweet malt, toast and faint dark fruit.

Draft with Linh at blind tiger. Pours a dark brown body with reddish tint, no head but minor lacing. Aroma is burnt meat and smoke. Mouthfeel is thin to medium and very meaty. Again, with smoked notes in the taste as well.

Tap @ blind tiger. Pours a dark brown color with no head. Smells of tobacco and nurnt bacon shavings, but not strongly. Taste is slightly carbonated with a smokey after taste. Not bad, not great. Oh well, i tried it

Dark pour, smallish herad and decent lacing. Roasty, chocolatey porter like flavors with moderate smokey finish. Someight metallic lavors. Not terrible with the level of smokiness, but just an okay beer underneath. Nice creamy mouthfeel.

On tap at the Stirling Hotel ($5.14). Clear, deep black in color with auburn hues. Slightly transparent when held up to the light. Heavy roasted aroma with slight coffee notes. Medium body, very smooth (not at all thick and chewy). Really smoky, roasted flavor with a very slight dry finish at the very end. Quite drinkable and very enjoyable.

On tap at Al’s of Hampden. Pours nearly black with a very small light beige head that fades. The aroma is mildly smoky with nice roast and sweet malt along with dark chocolate. Good sweet caramel, chocolate, an roasted malts on the flavor with a good smokiness that is less meaty than most smoked beers have. Slick on the palate with a lower carbonation level and medium body. Solid smoked beer overall, not amazing but enjoyable.

Dark brown pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and some smoke. Taste is much the same. The smoke is more of an afterthought with this one, as the chocolate and coffee seem to be in command. Smooth and robust. Pretty drinkable. Not the best smoked beer in the world but it’s pretty tasty, and a nice alternative to Storm King if you’re not in the mood for a high ABV beer.

Hand Pump at the Brewery: Faint aroma of malt, smoke, beechwood, and hints of chocolate and oats. Poured very dark brown/ruby in color with a small, tan head that diminished but lasted lasted throughout. Hazy. Not sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of light roasted malt, light chocolate, slight wood, light smoke, slight beechwood, slight caramel, and some oats. Medium body. Thin, then lightly dry texture. Soft, hand-pump carbonation. Light roasted malt, slight chocolate, light smoke, slight caramel, and slight oat finish is lightly sweet and lightly dry.

Draft. Pours a dark bruin body with an off whit head with mild retention. Lightly malty with chocolate tones, faint smoke, and hints of char. A light wooden and caramel tone. Nice smoked.
