On tap at the Blind Tiger’s Victory event. Pours a deep dark black brown with a medium sized beige head which deflates steadily. Smoke, roast, toast, chocolate and coffee. Chocolate and coffee, nice carbonation, more chocolate and a hint of raisins. Lots of coffee and toast on the finish. Yummy.

Gentle smokey aroma from rauch malts... Flavor is not exciting, kind of watered down, wouldn’t know it was a porter if you tasted it blind, smokey flavor I would say is appropriate, but not much of a roasted malt backbone... Disappointment.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2010 Sample at Fat Head’s in North Olmsted. This brew is a dark brown color with some amber around the edges. Medium light beige head that dissipates steadily, and stringy lacing. Smoked malt aroma with notes of hops. Medium body with a smoky character and flavors of roasted malt and hops. The finish is somewhat smoky and leaves an earthy malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draft at Craft. Pours dark brownish black with off-white head. Nose is heavy rauchy dark malt, some chocoff. Has a medium palate, not super cfomplex, but the rauchy flavor is excellent. Not as dense and powerful as the Aecht offerings, but very good, with a smooth finish.

Pours a nice black color with no head. Aroma of smoke, chocolate, and roasted malts. Flavor of chocolate, oats, and a hop finish. Smooth and creamy. Very nice beer.

UPDATED: JUL 4, 2010 Pours black with little head. Smokey aroma with some semi-sweet notes. Balanced taste of smoke, malt and hops. Finishes smokey but not overwhelmingly so. I enjoy the subtlety of this beer. I often find myself put off by smoked beers but the smoke here a part of the flavor, not the flavor itself.

Dark brown / black with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast, smoked malts, lactose, oats, and light cocoa. Taste of smoked wood up front, with some roast, cocoa, oats, vanilla, and a dry finish.

On draft at the brewpub. Dark brown with red highlights near the edges topped by a khaki head. The smell is fairly smoky but is very balanced in the flavor. Nice roasted and chocolate notes coming through under the smoke. Medium-full body and nice lacing. One of the better smoke beers I have had.

Thanks to Currie for sharing this. From a growler filled at Victory. Pours a deeper brown with amber notes and a smaller creamy/bubbly lighter tan head. Aroma of light smoke, roasted malt, chocolate and caramel. Flavor was a nice mix of smoked malts, roasted malt, chocolate, tobacco and toffee. The smoke was there but not over powering. Actually a smooth and drinkable beer with a nice smoke quality.

draft at brewery- really enjoyed this one- the smokey campfire aroma hits you big time at first- then it settles down, as does the smoke, to a perfectly appropriate element, complementing the chocolate notes of the porter very nicely. Well done.
