3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 GTAEgeek (775) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAY 5, 2013
On tap at the Thirsty Monk. Dark copper color, with a small, beige head. Caramel, syrup, earthy hops, and some pine. Faint notes of smoked meats. Very sweet at first, with a rather forward hop bite toward the finish. The result is a nicely balanced, sweet, bitter, and spicy flavor. Medium to heavy body, with a lively mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good American Doppelbock. Nicely hopped, without overwhelming the malts.

Draught at Blind Tiger. Pours dark clear amber. The taste of alcohol is strong here and definitely strong malts, smoke and toasted caramel. A decent beer.

Had this as a draft and it was considerably carbonated. It had a really lovely nutty, barnayardy quality with banana esters.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 NikkTwist (887) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 25, 2012
Draft at the Khyber. Poured a very dark ruby - nice color (make sure you hold it up to a bright light!) Small white head disapeared quickly. Sweet dark fruits balanced with some darker elements. Burned oak wine barrels. Coffee liquor. Tinge of sour and smoke. Not fantastic, but interesting and unusual.

Tap at Oblivion. Nose has some syrupy qualities with some light raisin and maple like notes. Molasses and some other dark fruits. Nice. Pour is brown with a thin white head. Taste is similar to nose with some dark fruits and a bit of bready notes and some light molasses/syrup flavors. Good stuff.

Pours a clear ruby/amber color with a medium tan head. Aroma is malty with light fruitiness, rasin, and a bit of nuttiness. Flavor has some wheaty and fruity notes...lightly roasty malts and a mild earthy hoppiness...faint nuttiness. Mouthfeel is medium/full with a fruity/malty finish that warms a bit.
