3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Best by Jan 22 2008
Pours a very attractive copper tinged brown with a thick two finger head that fades slowly to a solid cap. Despite the significant foam topping this, the lacing is minimal.
Smell; sweet caramel and brown sugar up front, followed a nice toasted biscuit aroma. There’s also a slight fruitiness in the background with a touch of figs or maybe dates.
Taste; the brown sugar and caramel follow through to the flavor, as well as the toasted biscuits and a little herbal hops. The fruits are more defined in the flavor with dates coming through very nicely, with a hint of raisins.
Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a low carbonation, giving this a nice smooth creamy feel, and the drinkability is really good. If not for the high abv I would be able to have a few of these in a row.

Tap at the brewpub in Downingtown, PA. Half pint. Commomshawn, rosskyle, and samadouche in the house. Darker amber and brown cola coloring. Nose is soft caramel and toffee with a slight toasted nutty quality. Taste is on the sweeter end initially with a burnt sugar and caramel feel. Medium body with an alcohol punch without burning the doppel bock. Bready with some roasty malt notes. It’s pretty decent...definitely come out victorious in some minor PA battles.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Dark ruby hued pour with a thin head. Soft fruity, caramel sweet aroma and complex dark malts in the nose. Carbonation is moderate, creaming up on the palate. Thick mouthfeel, with lots of malty character. Complex flavors of raisin, grape, ebbing blends of caramel and chocolate. Sharpish citric-like flavor that strikes from under the malt and then retreats. Wonderfully rich burnt caramel, toffee, and grape flavors become very pronounced as the beer warms. Sweet bready taste that lingers. To date, this is the best beer I’ve ever tasted. Phenomenal American stab at the style.
