ljay6880 (132), , Pennsylvania, USA Apr 18, 2009 poured out of a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. fairly good aroma, and appearance was great with a nice dark foam. The beer lacks in flavor, not because it is a bad flavor, but just that it lacks anything special or memorable. The beer leaves an unpleasent bitter aftertaste. Overall impression would be average. Birdiebeagle (777), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 15, 2009 Bottle Pours a dark brown with a good creamy tan head. The head lasts well and laces nicely. This is a very good looking beer. Has a good aroma of cocoa. Slight ops, roastedness, and wood. Every time I spin the glass I get more. Bitter coffee. Has a perfect carbination and an awesome mouthfeel. Flavors are wonderful. Has a great mix of malts and hops. Has a last good finish. The alcohol is well hidden with a perfect touch of burn. Has an almost dry texture. This is just an awesome beer. I can’t believe I haven’t had this before...Victory is in my backyard. I won’t make that mistake I am going to stock up on this. ditmier (1015), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 12, 2009 2009 Bottle - Thanks DrHomolka! - Pours a dk brown with a medium creme head...aroma is sweet anise, coffee and cocoa...flavour is similar, with some charred wood bitterness, which fights the hop forward bitters...finish is lingering coffee astringency and dry grain...nice... garthicus (1215), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 12, 2009 With thanks to HogTownHarry. Nice jet black body with a medium cream tan head. Aroma: I can get it from an arms length, lots of malt, chocolate, coffee, hops, the coffee & dark chocolate really dominates, the alcohol is there but not overpowering. Flavour: Bitter coffee, lots of malt, earth, tobacco, really long drawn out molasses and coffee notes with a long bitter finish. Really lovely. **Note - I think this bottle is a 04 vintage! Beerman125 (18), , New York, USA Apr 12, 2009 Pleasant malty aroma greets you in this deep, dark pour. A roasted chocolate flavor makes for a smooth experience on the palate. Though good, I’ve enjoyed other imperial stouts just a little bit more. mcmd (130), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Apr 11, 2009 12oz bottle in a snifter. Pours deep dark brown with a beige head with nice lacing. Aroma is semi-sweet chocolate, roasted malt, hops. Flavor is dark chocolate, espresso, then hops are blended in the finish along with a nice roasty bitterness. Excellent imperial stout, the hops really give it complexity, very unique. Coltrane (108), South Carolina, USA Apr 11, 2009 Sure its nice and all, but pretty middle of the pack as far as RIS’ go. A big winner as far as price, but solidly in the middle for taste and complexity.
jmulv (76), Rensselaer, New York, USA Apr 6, 2009 Pours a very dark brown/black with almost no head. The smell is to die for - some hops and a load of roasty goodness. It tastes a bit hoppier than some other imperial stouts I’ve had, but that’s not a bad thing in my mind. An excellent beer by an excellent brewery.
