snakeoilpete (324), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 5, 2009 Updated: Mar 6, 2009Bottle. Pours almost black with a decent frothy tan head. Very complex and dynamic. First sniff is extreme smoked meat and roasted malt. Later, hops and oats dominate the smell. Hops, chocolate, coffee, and then more hops in the taste. Great bitter hop finish with a little smoke. Slightly thin for an imperial stout. mistersinalin (367), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Mar 5, 2009 Boom - outta the park! This is a smooth silky stout that is full of flavor like an imperial. However, it hides the high alcohol content well. nathan30533 (138), Dahlonega, Georgia, USA Mar 4, 2009 This is a great stout. Smell is that of chocalate malt and hops. Good balance of taste. Pours dark with espresso colored head. Great stout! Chipper (179), Red Lion, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 3, 2009 Black pour with a minimal tan head. Chocolate, malt, and coffee. Flavor was exceptionally smooth with the malt and chocolate up front, then a little hops. Nice dry finish and an excellent beer. tturner (103), , Washington, USA Mar 2, 2009 very dry finish. maltyness tries to come out but the bitterness holds it down. Slightly thin and acidic. scrizzz (1246), kirkland, Washington, USA Mar 2, 2009 Jet black, heavy in the glass with a small sandy head that quickly became only a ring around the edge of the glass. Oily French roasted coffee aroma. More burnt coffee without the bitterness, slick and creamy. So thick it coats my mouth and settles into my teeth. The strong bold aggressive richness barges in like an unwelcomed houseguest but it turns out he’s a cool guy who knows what a courtesy flush is and makes great Thai food. Come back anytime. slowrunner77 (58), reno, USA Feb 28, 2009 "reminds me of Rasputin (North Coast) in the nose and flavor. Very hoppy up front, and a dry lingering hoppy aftertaste...but in between, it has a thiner but far smoother mouthfeel, making it a more drinkable brew. Chocolate and roasted malt come through in the mouth and swallow as well. Quite good - worth the hype."
