0o9i (326), Reno, Nevada, USA Oct 18, 2008 Bottled. Black body topped with a small brown head that turns into a ring and a glaze that mostly conceals the top of the beer. Laces slightly. Mouth is medium-full with very light, coarse and foamy carbonation for a mildly creamy palate. I smell roastiness, chocolate, molasses, pine, alcoholic warmth. I taste sugar, chocolate, oats, molasses, severely roasted malts for a very bitter (burnt coffee) finish. There’s also a hint of pine wood and grapefruit rind. This beer should probably sit in the cellar for a couple of years, at which point it won’t be nearly so harsh. Alcohol is very well hidden by a bitterness that outclasses many IPA’s. Changed (161), Ithaca, New York, USA Oct 18, 2008 Updated: Feb 14, 200912 oz bottle, pours black, finger of tan head, nice lacing. Almost smells like an IPA/Imp. Stout mix. Roasted malt flavor, some smokiness, but not a ton. After drinking the Brooklyn 2008 Stout last night, this once seems less impressive. (but still good)
Upon drinking again, I appreciate this one more for its own merits... Underhook (162), Lincoln Park, New Jersey, USA Oct 18, 2008 Pours deep black and thick, like tar. Not much head, but the head that’s there is dark brown, like the color of milk chocolate. Not too much nose, what’s there is a sweet chocolaty smell. Tastes rich, dark, sweet, dark fruits. Roasted, dry finish. Thick, creamy, rich palate. Very good stout. arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Oct 17, 2008 I poured this 12 oz. best before 03/2011 bottle into my snifter (as I almost always do). It was very black but had a cream colored head. The smell was very doughy and kind of unpleasant. The flavor was still very hoppy but had some nice roastiness to it. i really couldn’t get past the dough flavor of the beer. I liked this when I first bought it in August and when I had it on tap but it didn’t wow me this time. Maybe aging was not so good for the ol King.

This was a hard beer to rate and its not fair because it was a good beer for what it is, but in regards to my taste I did not like it as much as I like the Donnybrook (which giving it the respect it deservces is a completely different style). So for the style it was good, but I would prefer otherones that I have had. ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Oct 15, 2008 (12oz bottle from Spec’s on October 14, 2008) This has the best looking head I have ever seen. I think. I don’t know... my memory is bad. But its head rocks my socks off. Appearance on this is getting a 5 fo sho. Solid black. Amazing aroma. Great taste... and you can’t even tell this is an imperial, really (in other words, the alcohol isn’t strangling your tongue). Just that it tastes so so great. You really can’t go wrong with Storm King. A++ kpresley77 (133), Jackson, Georgia, USA Oct 10, 2008 Bottle courtesy of weeheavysd pours opaque black with no head and little carbonation. Aroma is dark fruit and chocolate malt. First taste is chocolate malt with dark fruit backing. Pretty well balanced with a slight roasted malt and strong alcohol bite in the finish. foundmd (163), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 9, 2008 12oz bottle. Aged for about one year. Pours opaque black with a nice mocha head. Some nice lacing too. Big hop flavors and dark chocolate give this complex depth and bitterness. Alcohol is well disguised. A fantastic Imperial.
