Black with a minimal head. Nice coffee aroma with a slight scent of caramel. A slight but good alcohol burn. Went well with my burger. bobert (6), woodcliff lake, New Hampshire, USA does not count | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 26, 2008 Very thick yet very very smooth. Coffee taste--quite aromatic. Veritable roasted malt. Very tasteful beer. 0110x011 (20), Dana Point, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 25, 2008 Pours pitch black with a one finger head that fades pretty quickly. Not much lacing to speak of. Chocolate, caramel, and earth on the nose. There’s a bit of coffee in the flavor, with a touch of tobacco in there as well. Thinner than most impy stouts, but still quite rich. Slightly astringent, and a bit of alchohol burn.
A solid imperial stout. This would make a fine introduction to the style timfoolery (484), California, USA

I tasted coffee, chocolate, light dark-fruit, and good-sized maltiness. This one was slightly sticky and rather excellent. I found it strikingly similar to Moylan’s IS. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 25, 2008 Sampled at the stout tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 10/13/08. Pours black with a 1/4 inch head. Aroma is sweet malt with some alcohol and chocolate. Flavor is a strange alcohol taste like windex. We’ll chalk that up to having several other stouts before this and rate based upon the next few sips. Flavor is sort of sweet with a surprising amount of hop. A little too much hop, but not a bad beer overall. Wouldn’t mind trying one aged to see if the hop backs down at all. danielcurtis81 (885), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep black with a quickly fading tan head. Chocolate and coffee on the nose, some yeast too. Spicy start, a lot of floral hops flavors too with a nice roasted malt. Slightly sticky and dry mouthfeel. Overall real good. Definitely a different stout with all the hop flavors almost an IPA Stout. A good different. 0o9i (333), Reno, Nevada, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 18, 2008 Bottled. Black body topped with a small brown head that turns into a ring and a glaze that mostly conceals the top of the beer. Laces slightly. Mouth is medium-full with very light, coarse and foamy carbonation for a mildly creamy palate. I smell roastiness, chocolate, molasses, pine, alcoholic warmth. I taste sugar, chocolate, oats, molasses, severely roasted malts for a very bitter (burnt coffee) finish. There’s also a hint of pine wood and grapefruit rind. This beer should probably sit in the cellar for a couple of years, at which point it won’t be nearly so harsh. Alcohol is very well hidden by a bitterness that outclasses many IPA’s. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 18, 2008 Updated: Feb 14, 200912 oz bottle, pours black, finger of tan head, nice lacing. Almost smells like an IPA/Imp. Stout mix. Roasted malt flavor, some smokiness, but not a ton. After drinking the Brooklyn 2008 Stout last night, this once seems less impressive. (but still good)
Upon drinking again, I appreciate this one more for its own merits...
