NDbeerdrinker (164), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Aug 31, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown, almost black, with a 2 finger reddish cream head. Aroma is strong, hoppy and roasted malts. Taste is absolutely wonderful. Not overpowering, but strong. Just as it says, has the roasted malt flavors of chocolate and coffee but nice balance with hops that are still able to stand out. Definitely will drink this again. SHANER4 (370), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 30, 2008 Poured a murky dark color with thick tan head. Aroma is rich roasted malt and chocolate. Flavor is bitter and has smokey chocolate taste. This is an excellent stout, nice and balanced and easy to drink for having a high ABV. Botnik (101), Carrollton, Texas, USA Aug 29, 2008 This is hoppier and dryer than others in its style and class, like a cross between an imperial stout and an IPA . Not bad, but different. TeamTrappist (363), jericho, New York, USA Aug 29, 2008 Tap at the Blind Tiger. Poured very dark black, no head, Nice nose that came off as sweet and fruity. The flavor is nice and complex with lots going on.It has the usual stout notes of chocolate and coffee, but there is a nice hop flavor to it, and the chocolate is delicious. Very nice bitter finish to it. Jimrbb (16), USA Aug 27, 2008 Pours muddy dark. chocolate, roasty, licorice, strong coffee, very alcoholic but hiding this. a good beer wilderthanyou (409), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Aug 25, 2008 Pours as dark as motor oil with a thin brown lightly sticky head. No surprise there. The aroma is BIG BIG BIG notes of salty black licorice. The flavour is strong espresso upfront, with some strange undertones of hoppy character that seem to put the dark chocolate and coffee notes on a pedestal, making them taste even darker, the beer finishes with a touch of black licorice flavour. The hops I believe are what really set this beer apart from other imperial stouts I’ve had, interesting, complex, and overall pretty damn tasty, but I still prefer yeti and stone over this. All and all a Top Notch beer though. smjohnst (202), , Pennsylvania, USA Aug 25, 2008 This beer wasnt quite what I remembered. It has a great initial flavor with all kinds of crazy undertones. Espresso, chocolate and hops all at once but it has a stingy aftertaste of alcohol which makes it a little more difficult to drink for me than most other stouts. Great quality though. hombrepalo (726), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 24, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark dark brown red with a thin head. This just smells dark. Robust espresso and sweet molasses and honey with weakly floral hops surprising licorice and bubblegum traces. And of course, alcohol. Pleasant roasted malt flavor. Very smooth with no unpleasant after tastes. Thick body. Easy Impy Stout to drink. Loved it!
