nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Aug 22, 2008 12 ozer poured into a snifter...shared with a few friends. Poured an extremely dark black color with a thin brown head. Aroma is slightly of bitter hops, but mainly of bitter coffee and caramel. Flavor has a black cherry note, licorice and coffee. This beer isn’t for the faint of heart. I wouldn’t rate it above a Yeti or Stone RIS, but an excellent offering. I’m glad I purchased a sixer. Fruitfly (59), , Pennsylvania, USA Aug 22, 2008 Impervious black with small head and very nice lacing. This is an attractive beer. Aroma is first high volumes of hops, followed by an excellent range of stout malts, making it sweet, heavy, and rich. As bitter as dark chocolate and as sweet as liquor soaked cherries. Bitter entry with a very light smokiness. Next comes pecan pie with thick, rich, filling. The finish may be the best aspect, bringing out the fruitiness: roasted chocolate malts, with rasins, plums, and slight alcohol flavour. My expectations were high after having several Victories: one of the top 10 overall beers i’ve tried. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Aug 20, 2008 Pours a dark opaque black colour with a thick brown coffee aroma head. Aroma is of dark roasted malts, burned coffee and heavy dark chocolate. Taste is incredibly delightful. Welcoming, rich, flavorful with black cherries, black licorice and plenty of overipe fruit. Hands down, the best impy stouts i have ever had. yumyum (113), barrie, Ontario, Canada Aug 18, 2008 nice imperial. Pours black with some tan lacing lingering.nice aroma, coffee mainly. strong molasses flavour and definite hoppiness but nice and relatively short finish. Some winey tones came through as it warmed. Qujte good spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA Aug 17, 2008 Black with a large almost brown head and good amount of lacings. Aroma is coffeee, some cocoa. Taste is molasses, brown sugar, cocoa, some soy sauce, coffee, and plenty of bitter hops. Bitter dry astringent finish. Alcohol is not as obvious as you would expect given the 9.1% abv. Smooth drinker, almost crisp. Very enjoyable though not for frequent consumption. kegbear (265), Orange, California, USA Aug 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark black with a minimal tan head. Strong burnt malt taste, burnt coffee and some bitter chocolate. Finishes with an astringent hop bitterness. Not worthy of a 100 rating in my opinion. Tripplebrew (486), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Aug 16, 2008 Pours a dark espresso tar black with a dark tan head that dissipates to a thin layer. Aroma is chocolate and nutty roasted malts. Flavor is like a rich cup of coffee with malts bitter nutty cocoa. Hints of hops present, rather bitter bite. Body is medium. A good solid stout. realbama (35), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Aug 15, 2008 Thanks go out to the state of Michigan for having this stocked. This beer looked all the part of a top 90 percentile beer. So black light could not permeate. The head started out as about half the size of the pour and dwindled to about an inch thick in about 3 minutes. Smelled of coffee and burned hops, taste was extremely bold and stout (thus the name i guess). I love porters, i like stouts, but this one made me chase it with a shot of milk. Great beer though!
