joeymacaroni (181), West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 21, 2008 Updated: Aug 26, 2008hold this baby up to light and you can’t see through it. truly amazing imperial stout. aroma of smoke and molasses and coffee. flavor is complex, with tons of black coffee, bakers chocolate, roasted chocolate maltiness joining in a well balanced mix of hoppy bitterness. finish is bitter and dry and lasts forever.
UPDATE: I tried the cask version today, and it was sublime. lots more creaminess, lots more liquorice, coffee, chocolate. brilliant. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 21, 2008 Bottle courtesy of cartdan.
Color is black with a brownish head. Aroma is llightly roasted, some coffee and maybe a hint of toffee/chocolate. Taste is sweet, hoppy for a very mild bitter touch and malty, some touch of licorice and light lactose. FunkyBrewster (435), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 20, 2008 Updated: Sep 14, 2009Pours a dark brown black color with a small light brown froth. Looks like espresso. Aroma is dark chocolate and coffee with a mot of roasted malt. Flavor starts out with chocolate and sweet malt. Bitterness arrives abruptly in the middle and stays through the finish which has a very strong black coffee taste that lingers. Full bodied and quite rich with a sticky mouth feel. This is an excellent sipper that I shared a 12 oz bottle with two other people and it is so rich that I did not need any more than 4 oz worth. Great beer elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Jul 19, 2008 3/23/08 notes: poured from 12 oz. bottle, I think this beer is incredible. Big nose of dark chocolate, coffee, smoke, some dark fruit. Full-bodied, complex flavor: roasted malts, molasses, coffee all balanced perfectly. Alcohol is well hidden. So smooth, with a nice mouthfeel and a touch of malty molasses-prune sweetness before a creamy bitter hoppy finish. This beer is tasty and very satisfying (especially for the price). hopson (591), Williamsville, New York, USA Jul 14, 2008 bottle- tasty- a very smooth and chocolaty imp stout, without overly roasted bitterness or astringency getting in the way. enjoyed it quite a bit. level4 (24), New Jersey, USA Jul 14, 2008 12oz Bottle. Pours black with almost no head. Coffee, malt and hints of chocolate at the start and then an uppercut of hops at then end to remind your that you that this is a mans beer. Once my palate became adjusted to the bitter finish, I really enjoyed this one. maniac4016 (114), bill clinton, Iceland Jul 11, 2008 storm king is good stout, coffe-bakers choc all the way through with just enough hops to dry it out on the finish, this storm will wreck your pathetic trailer and toss your shitty pick-up blocks away paytoplay (121), , California, USA Jul 9, 2008 Wasn’t blown away by this Imperial Stout, it was very unasuming, balanced and complex. You think it would knock you over with power and brute force, it doesn’t. Nose was burbon, smoke, peat, coal, and somewhat dark floral notes. Persistant finish. Great beer and was only around $2 for a 12oz, not bad.
