ketchepillar (475), Viña del Mar, Chile Jun 9, 2008 Updated: Jun 29, 2009Bottle marked enjoy by 5/30/12 sampled on 6/8/08. Much better than the taste I had from this batch about six months ago. Barely any alcohol, which was abrasive before. Aroma is berries, vinous, with a little diacetyl. Taste is better, rather chocolaty with an overall very nice malt profile. A good amount of malt bitterness and roasty as well. As it first enters the mouth, it is unrefined, but by the finish, it is exceptionally well-rounded. Palate is quite nice, incredibly smooth with perfect carbonation. There is only a hint of acidic alcohol abrasiveness to bring it down to a 4. 7/4/8/4/17-4.0
Best by 5/30/12. Enjoyed on 6/29/09.
Surprised by the cedar in this (flavor, not aroma, but actually a little in the aroma). Reminds me a ton of Cigar City 110K+OT Batch 2. Very smooth flavors. 8/4/9/4/18-4.3
lweiberg (89), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Jun 8, 2008 Thinner than it is dark and with a hint of IPA/barleywine. For the price, and considering it’s an imperial stout, not quite FTW but still not exactly fail, either. yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark Jun 8, 2008 RB#4900: 12 fl oz bottle, huge thanks to Grovlam for providing this treat! Pours pitch black with a lacing tan head. Solid roasted and chocolate malt with a mild alcohol bite. Flavour is smooth with a nice hoppy bitterness that goes through from beginning to end. Mixed with a nice roasted malt flavour and gradually going into a nice chocolate smoothness and back again with a solid roasted malt and mixed with a hoppy bitternes.. Ends with a smooth to sharp roasted malt flavour. BlackMail (55), Evergreen, Colorado, USA Jun 6, 2008 This is a great beer, from the pour to the last sip. Victory is coming out with some great American beers that can compete with the West coast. AdamGott (190), Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA Jun 5, 2008 ooh this is good, another of my 30 beers that I picked up while in Portland. Nice pitch black pour leads to a very complex yet delicious assault on my taste buds. Grovlam (3790), Copenhagen, Denmark Jun 5, 2008 Bottle. Huge brown creamy and mostly lasting head. Film like lacework. Pitch black color. Aroma was very complex with notes of dried fruit, vinous, sweet roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, hint of smoke, liquorish, alcohol and underlying hoppy notes comes through as well. Full bodied with a soft carbonation and thick alcoholic texture. Heavy bitter and sweet flavor in balance. Burned lingering English liquorish finish with a hoppy feel at the very end. Excellent! GMUcrew7 (353), Mason, Ohio, USA Jun 1, 2008 Pours thick and black with a finger of creamy tan head. Nice roasted malts and tones of chocolate, coffee and dried fruits in the aroma. Very complex and robust flavors, nice roasty flavor blended with a sharp bitterness from the hops. A little too bitter for an impy in my opinion, but definitely a solid beer. eazy1106 (8), USA does not count May 31, 2008 Pours a pitch black color, with little head, great aroma of roasted malts & chocolates. The hops taste though just attacked my mouth, it gives it quite a punch. I took my time drinking this one. Mucho props if you can down more than one in a sitting. A bit too strong for my taste.
