oteyj (713), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA May 16, 2008 Motor oil pour with copious billowy head. Aroma of deep roasted malt- simple but splendid. Flavor was much the same- robust in the flavor and body. Excellent Impy. Trev (849), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA May 15, 2008 Pours a dark brown/black with a medium creamy tan head.
Aroma is peppery and dark fruit hop and thick sweet chocolate malt
Flavour is a nice balance of initial bitterness smoothing into a coffee-molasses roast malt and finishing with a return to the bitterness that greeted you.
Awesome. bigtaster (184), Grand Rapids, USA May 14, 2008 12 oz bottle in brandy snifter. When poured it quickly develops a large brown head receding slowly leaving nice lacing along the circumference of the glass. Aroma is dominated by intense roasted malts with molasses sweetness, a hint of bitter hops and some dried fruits. Immediately warming full body engages the entire palate. Smokey roast flavors dominate with a subtle sweetness slowly replacing the initial burst of flavor. Only detractor is the lack of complexity. Memorable beer. fg8080 (37), San Diego, California, USA May 13, 2008 12oz Bottle. Pours black with hues of dark red/brown. Creamy foamy brown head. Roasted malt, coffee aroma. Taste chocalate dark fruit/dates and coffee.Bitter and sweet, well balanced with a nice finish stangger (155), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA May 13, 2008 Black. Roasted Malt aroma. Nice and thick, but not quite to the point I was expecting. A little overrated. MrBeerFanatic (344), jamestown, New York, USA May 12, 2008 Poured a nice dark brown with a brown head. This is a high malt driven beer with tastes of roasted malt and sour hops. Very rich and complex with subdued sweetness. The end is pretty bitter, with a smoky flavor that lingers for a while. Very nice, I just think they should have made it a little sweeter. Nicely done and balenced. zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA May 9, 2008 Updated: Feb 7, 2009Black with tan head. Espresso and hops with raisin malt. Complex ,yet even. Tastes strike slowly. Alcohol is present without being overbearing. Hops comes through at the end. Very good. dkachur (2313), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA May 9, 2008 Bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville. Pours thick and black with almost no head. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Very hoppy taste, with mocha notes. Very bitter. OK, but I’m glad I skipped the sixer.
