MrChopin (620), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 1, 2008 Updated: Aug 6, 2008After a second taste, I don’t like this one as much as I initially did. Pours black with a small white head. Nose has roast coffee with a little chocolate, oat, and alcohol. The taste is rather simple with roast and chocolate. Creamy for a stout though a little watery, SK is not very balanced or complex. skortila (2875), Bunnik, Netherlands May 1, 2008 Updated: May 19, 2008Bottled. Tnx Jerohen for the import. Aroma has some chocolate, roast, coffee, prunes and other dark fruits. Dark black coloured with not much head. Taste is moderate bitter, sweet. It has coffee, roast and chocolate combined with more fruity tones. Some licorice. Quite a good combination. Rerate after another bottle. I think it lacks a bit body to be a real good imperial stout. ccoburn (22), Leawood, Kansas, USA May 1, 2008 Beautiful balance between hops and malt. Very pleasant citric hop presence as well as a nice and hard subtle coffee and slight chocolate malt match towards the citric hop oils. Spectacular balance. caesar (3020), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands Apr 30, 2008 Bottled, brought from the US by jerohen. Dark color, short off-white head. Aroma is strong of coffee and dark chocolat. Tastes the same, only slightly roasted. Very nice, but it lacks some complexity actually. jerohen (1602), Bussum, Netherlands Apr 30, 2008 Opaque, dying head. In aroma roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, hops and raisins, very nice. Bitter flavour, roasted malts and liquorice. Thick mouthfeel. Lasting finish. Very nice. GAManiac (1120), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 28, 2008 Pours a dark chocolate brown with no light passing through except for the cola-colored edges. Small, off-white head diminishes quickly with moderate lacing. Rather sweet malty molasses smell for an RIS, with an underlying roasted chocolate and coffee aroma in the background. First taste is roasted coffee and chocolate which flows into the malty sweetness that dominated the smell. Finish is a pleasant roasted bitterness. Slightly more complex than the nose would suggest. Relatively creamy and smooth feel with only a hint of carbonation. Less abrasive and more drinkable than most stouts I’ve had. Overall, a very well balanced brew from Victory. Ported (67), Ontario, Canada Apr 28, 2008 Bottle. Pitch black with a nice tan head. Smells and tastes of roasted malt, lots of hops and a little molasses and coffee. Slightly syrupy with a crisp, bitter finish. 9% abv is very well masked. Delicious! hoptimus (50), Grand Island, New York, USA Apr 28, 2008 On tap from Consumer’s...Pours oily black with a gorgeous mocha head that had a hint of red or orange to it. Smell had some hops, lots of coffee beans, and citrus. This IS had a HUGE hop character with lots of chocolate. Was also very roasty. The bitterness lingers for quite awhile, and some more malt and a bit of sweetness presents itself to balance it out better as it warms. Flavor would be a perfect 10 if the bitterness was toned down just a bit in favor of some more sweetness. Overall it was very delicious. I really like the name of this beer too...comes off the tongue nicely.
