popdoggy (100), USA Apr 5, 2008 This is a big beer. One of my all time favorites. This beer blows my socks off.
I love it.
Victory does a great job with the imperial stout, and I am happy to have some left. dlovell2 (136), Columbia, Maryland, USA Apr 3, 2008 Dark Brown. Roasted Malt Aroma. Chocolaty Tate hops finsh with alcohol feel in mouth. A great beer. Skyview (3968), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Apr 3, 2008 Sampled during Cellar’s Wednesday beer tasting evening. Pours an opaque dark brown, motor oil brew with a creamy tan head that has some excellent retention, and sticky lacing. Aroma of toasted dark black malt, dark chocolate, a touch of smoked wood, coffee and some molasses. Taste is thick and chewy, full bodied with flavors of toasted dark malt, coffee, chocolate and even some toffee. Finish is slightly dry with some bitter hops that lingers around after the finish. MatSciGuy (627), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA Apr 2, 2008 [bottle] Lots of hops and coffee on the nose. Pours somewhat viscous black with small tan head. Taste is lots of hops, roasty flavors, and somewhat metallic from the alcohol. Finishes quite dry with lingering hop bitterness. moseslikesbeer (183), conestoga, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 2, 2008 aroma of malt, hops and you can really smell the 9.1%(not hidden at all in the smell). look like Motor oil. very small head and no carbonation to speak of. no lacing either. Flavor is some what complex with Malt and roasted nuts but mostly a hop flavor. This is a good stout but not one of my favorites. I’m not a hop head (I know I’m in the minority on this site) and the strong hops kind of ruin this for me personally. I have been called a fruit snob and I don’t like Grapefruit and this has a very grapefruit/hop finish that I just don’t like. I’ve had a few from Victory and that has been my complaint with there beers. For me they would be awesome if they took a few scoops of the hops out of their mix. One of the things I look for in a beer is balance and this doesn’t have it. I feel like I have just sucked on a giant grapefruit and I’m not ok with that. tympanic (50), Alabama, USA Apr 1, 2008 Rich, black body with tan head. Roasty and plenty malty, this imperial stout is satisfying, but maybe not quite worth the hype... I bought it tonight because of the ratebeer.com 100th percentile label under these six-packs at the liquor store. CaptBier (301), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Apr 1, 2008 Bottle. It pours black and has a fine brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of smoke and coffee. And the flavor is sweet too with notes of smoke and coffee before the sweetness gives way to a great bitter end. A fantastic flavor in a fantastic beer with a great body. mcox90 (617), Wilton, USA Mar 29, 2008 12 oz bottle served in a snifter. Pours black with a small tan head. Nose of oak wood, molasses, & heavy malt . Mouthfeel is heavy & creamy with very low carbonation. Heavy malt presence dominates flavor as well as the usual stout charcteristics of molasses, toffee, & unsweetened chocolate. Kind of a woody background too. Bit of a hop presence in the finish leaving you a slight bitter aftertaste.
