Deep black of color with a beige head. An aroma with liqurice, hops choco and sweets. A flavor of liqurice and sweets.

The head is full and creamy. This stout is misleading as it drinks more like a black IPA. It definitely taste s you by storm with its coffee/malt balance.

Black with a thick tan head. Aroma was chocolate, toffee, coffee, and cherry. Flavor was strong coffee, chocolate, molasses, more cherry and a bit of a hop bite. Alcohol pops out and the mouthfeel is a bit thin. Still pretty darn good.

Bottle courtesy of GMCC2181. Pours a pitch black with a nice 2 finger tan head that faded into a soap screen on top. Spotty lacing. Nose is dark chocolate, black coffee and a touch of smokiness in the background. Palate is mostly coffee - not much of the chocolate comes through in the taste. It has a nice mildly bitter hop finish. Moderate creamy mouth feel. A smooth drinker that hides the alcohol pretty well. Thanks for this bonus Gabe!

Bottle thanks to Matt, bottle from ’04 so 3-4yrs old. Aroma is hoppy, sweet caramalts and roasty malts, seems a bit minimal though. Taste is similar, overly roasty though, notes of tabacco and fruity character but quite mellow as if its kind of dying s slow death.

IT HAS A VERY DARK COLOR. STRONG ALCOHOL SMELL. A VERY COMPLEX TASTE. I LOVE IMPERIAL STOUTS AND THIS IS ONE OF AMERICAS BEST.

OK, I need to try this one again for sure. I was so let down here. This one poured dark, looked bold, and had a great tan head. I was pretty impressed! I did notice lots of carbonation, but whatever. Aroma was pretty unimpressive, almost smelled like chocolate bananas. Then, I tasted it. Fairly uncomplex. I wouldn’t quite say "one dimensional" but compared to some underrated stouts like Night Tripper, this one did not hold up. Very very boozy. Faint notes of cold coffee and some light fruit flavors dancing around in the background. As the beer warmed, it seemed to gain character, and the flavor became more noticeable. However, the single I had was gone by this point. Will be picking up more on the next Cincy trip though to try again!!

Aroma is a soft roasted scent with a vague hop tone behind it. color is black with good carbonation and a thin but tight tan head. Taste rich, sweet and bitter. Starting with a full body it goes down with a rich feel. Finish starts out sweet with a roasted or burnt taste that has scant hop flavor and bright bitterness. After taste is the bitterness lingering on and building up. This is a good brew but I find it way too bitter for an Imperial and a little too hoppy. I love this brewery but I think a lot of people are over rating this beer.
