EHopper (274), Minnesota, USA Mar 22, 2008 Pours very dark, with a think, carmel colored head. Tried to say the aroma was burnt something, but closer to say smoked beef of rye. Taste is complex, moving from chocolate to burnt grain and molasses, with portion of bitters. Interesting hop and alcohol aftertaste. Solid beer, but there are other Imperial Stout’s available I enjoy more. DeaconD (2), Ft. Worth, Texas, USA does not count Mar 21, 2008 Nice dark full body that light does not pass through. Has an oaky flavor that lingers on the tongue. Petrucci914 (574), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Mar 21, 2008 Pours an oily dark black with a medium foamy mocha head with bits of bubbly lacing. Aroma is very bittersweet hops. Taste is quite bitter up front but finishes rather milky, malty, nutty, and oatey. An interesting balance that hides the alcohol well. asheft (1374), Marburg, Germany Mar 17, 2008 Quite a bit of hops aroma ahead of a pumpernickel aroma, accentuated with strawberries. Oily black with a mocha blanket on top. Cereal grains / pumpernickel flavour with a modest bitterness in good balance with a dry-sh finish. Full body, medium carbonation, lingering dark malt bitterness. hoppopotamus (182), Santa Cruz, California, USA Mar 16, 2008 Real dark beer with a dark tan head that leaves lace. Smells of burnt toast, molasses, mainly burnt notes. The taste is less sweet than the aroma leads one to believe. It’s mainly bittersweet chocolate, quite dry and bitter in the finish. Quite a good beer. uhclem (188), Loveland, Colorado, USA Mar 15, 2008 Pours a brown color so deep it is almost black. Head is the color of cappuchino which subsides quickly to medium lacing. Nose is complex, with coffee, molasses and chocolate. The only hint of a high alcohol content come with the first part of the sip, where it tries to hide behind the hops. This is not a bad thing. Excellent mouthfeel. Aftertaste brings back the coffee and molasses with a nice bitter aftertaste. I enjoyed this with a few slices of cave aged gruyere. Juancho (225), Clearwater Beach, Georgia, USA Mar 15, 2008 Draught, cask conditioned, bottle.... you name it. This is one of my favorites. Pours thick and dark and dense with a wonderful brownish head. A complex brew that balances the roasted malt with just the right amount of hops. Thick and substantial this is very satisfying indeed. cmatkins (12), Illinois, USA Mar 15, 2008 A slightly different flavor than many imperial stouts. The hops are more evident than in most imperial stouts. All in all a very good beer that with a well hidden 9% alcohol percentage. A very good value as well.
