3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I poured a 12 oz bottle into a snifter. There, the purplish black liquid raised a one-finger milk chocolate colored head that faded to adequate but not lavish lacing. Iím a big fan of Victory, but usually am not keen on double stouts, so I was keen to sample this legendary beer. It turns out that my love of brewery proved the better indicator, as I found this beer highly satisfactory. A pleasant dose of grassy, tree bark-ish hops dominates the nose, and these palate-cleansing agents return in the beerís finish. In between, you get espresso, bakerís chocolate, roasted nut skins, and a bit of browned flour. The palate proves surprisingly light for a double stout, meaning that you can still see your toes over your belly after you finish one. If you can still see the refrigerator, you might as well go get another.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Very hoppy aroma for an imperial stout. Roasty notes in the taste but with the hops still present. Bordering an imperial black IPA. Very nice.

Pitch black with a mocha head. Aromas of roasted barley, molasses, espresso, and bitter chocolate. Taste is more of the same with a bitter hop presence as well. Full Bodied and delicious. Will cellar well!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at CBB a big dark cocoa & clay aroma. It has solid citrus hops and roasty black malt goodness. Honestly when I tasted it I thought it was a Black IPA so for me it was good but a bit of a disappointment after all the hype Iíd hear about this beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
From Ales & Lagers in KL. Pitch black with fine tan head and huge sticky legs. Smells deeply richly bitter, leathery tobacco, roasted malt, slight spice, dark fruit. Taste is bitter, coffee, bit of umami. Thin-medium body with some slickness but a little too frothy. Big beer. Very good.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Ales & Lagers in KL at home. Rich black pour with creamy head. Mixture of aromas - bit of fruity piney hops with coffee and roasted malt. Really good. Taste is very bitter to start - floral hoppy coffee bitterness. Not as thick as I thought - but that's good. Very bitter finish - espresso comes through - with lasting booziness. The bitter and slightly fruity hoppiness adds a lot - great Imperial Stout, would definitely get again.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a deep, dark brown with a huge chocolatey brown foam head. Good lacing. Aroma is immediately noticeable -- huge roasted chocolate and coffee malts with licorice. Taste leads with dark fruits, and a bit of booze. One of the hoppier Stouts Iíve had. Chocolate and coffee malts arenít quite as strong as in the aroma. Not the strongest Stout youíll find, but a pleasant taste and easy to drink. This is an easy drinking Stout. Strongly recommended.
