With a huge, Pacific Northwest hop aroma & character upfront, Storm King subsides into massive, roast malt complexity. More flavor than mere words can adequately describe. Rich and substantial, it will warm your heart.

Bottle@home from drinkstore.
Pours thick black with open bubbles cola head. Watermelon and grapefruit on the nose with a touch of chocolate. In the mouth it starts off fruity grapefruit and sweet malt, but soon to descends into brash pithy grapefruit, chocolate and some astringency in finish. Warming, but not boozy.

9.1%ABV. Imperial Stout. Poured out black. 40ºSRM. Nose has dark fruit body, coffee, burnt sugar and deep caramel aromas. Aromas suggesting ume dryness a pleasant woody slightly earthy aroma. Mouthfeel is light syrup. Palate has woodsmoke, burnt toast, burnt twigs and a nice ume dryness. Deeply toasted oats, and burnt rice husks. Alcohol is present but barely noticeable. Finish is medium with an aggressive charcoal-noble hop bitter then vaporizing almost instantaneously to reveal some nice prune and black cheery like residuals.

Pours dark brown, near black with thin-to-none mocha head. Aroma is roast, raisins, and a bit of piney hop. Flavor is similar with semisweet cocoa mid-sip followed by a tad too much bitter for my liking. Finishes with a lingering bitter as well.

A classic in American craft beer culture, glad I found this one. Irregular, very dense, medium thick, pale yellow beige head leaving patches of lacing, very dark mahogany brown colour, hazy, blackish in general appearance but actually still largely translucent so paler than usual for the style. Aroma of coffee grounds and green coffee beans, cigar ashes, grapefruit peel, pine resin, charcoal, bitter chocolate, cedar wood, dried black olive, black pepper, leather, thyme, wormwood, caramel, salmiak, fig, gin, mocha ice cream, cloves, beef stock cubes, dried garden herbs, tree leaves. Sweet onset, candied fig and raisin notes, underlying roasted barley sourishness throughout, cured meat-like umami balancing out the sweetness, softish carbo, thick and oily, creamy mouthfeel. Beautiful, rich bittersweet middle, very nutty, very toasted and eventually chocolatey and coffeeish roasted bitter, spicy notes all along merging with a peppery and grapefruity New World hop bitterness in the end (almost BIPA-like, in fact), some of the dried fruit sweetishness lingering and adding complexity, warming wodka-like alcohol, maybe a little bit astringent in the very end but otherwise fitting in well. Beautiful roasted, even slightly ashy bitter flavors and a hint of liquorish linger all the way at the back. Rich, full, smooth and somewhat ashy, heavily roasted, spicy stout: a thing of beauty, as expected. This must have been quite an extreme beer when it first hit the market, and so it is still standing firmly as a classic and a reference for its style, American through and through in its uncompromizing hop character (achieved with whole hop cones like all of Victory’s beers) and rich in flavors. Love it.

Aroma of coffe, chocolate, hops and hints of leather and wood. Black with a tan head. Medium + sweet and medium bitter. Medium to full body with a average to soft carbonation. Overall a decent Imperial Stout, very enjoyable.
