kepano (239), Meudon, France Nov 16, 2006 Ah Storm King... Finally, the archetype I was awaiting, the definition in a largely defined style. Approaching with mild expectations, I was neither disappointed nor impressed, the attitude of this beer is indeed unassuming, modestly black and sealed by a tanned sponge. A unique combination of Nougat de Montelimar, chestnut, walnut, fig, apricot and Gruyère interacts with the slightest hop tingle and mundane chocolate coffee scents. I couldn’t quite decide whether this nose appealed to me, but the harmonization of its malts with warming was surely more appreciable. Nuts strike again upon the palate, in the form of prominent peanut. Coffee and dark chocolate appear stereotypically added to a dry hoppiness, light smoke and cherry. Initially quite bitter in both hop and malt fashion, the texture also veers to the vivacious until the liquid smoothens with rest. I found Storm King to be surprisingly characterful, but not in the most pleasing penchant - though overall a drink worth drinking.

Excellent! dimenhetfield (157), , Florida, USA Nov 7, 2009 Very awesome. Has a great aroma that has roasted notes of coffee and chocolate. Not as over powering as I was expecting, very smooth and drinkable. Pours a nice jet black color with minimal foam. RichardW (241), Carlisle, Cumbria, England Nov 5, 2009 Bottle, Beers of Europe.Very hoppy, rich, black full-bodied stout that is packed with fruity and roasted goodness. Let the beer slip slowly down and you can savour the explosive depth of it. At this strength you expect an almost treacle-like product, in a UK beer, but this is the perfect combination of everything you could ask for in a hoppy bitter and a dark stout. Fantastic. SpencerDB (18), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Nov 4, 2009 Rich, thick head. Great aroma. Coffee flavor with a hop kick. Just awesome. Everything I want in an imperial stout. Drank out of a regular pint glass unfortunately, but still delicious. stobbe74 (662), Denmark Nov 4, 2009 Bottle. Pours a black beer with a lightbrown head. The aroma is roasted and coffee. The flavor is coffee. The palate is roasted. Overall a good beer. dykhuis7 (9), New York, USA does not count Nov 2, 2009 Pours deep black with a dark caramel-brown head. There is so much going on here, it’s hard to get it all down. Roasted malt and roasted coffee aroma and flavor, but a hoppy bitterness that persists at the same time. A beautiful beer in the way it brings aromas and flavors from across the spectrum and balances them perfectly. Phenomenal.
