COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a huge, Pacific Northwest hop aroma & character upfront, Storm King subsides into massive, roast malt complexity. More flavor than mere words can adequately describe. Rich and substantial, it will warm your heart.

This beer starts with a nice citrus hop aroma, and pours a solid black color with an inch thick tan head, that fades down to a quarter of an inch with strong lacing. The initial tasting is a hint of sweetness that is quickly swallowed up by smoke, citrus and bitterness. There is no hint of the alcohol content in the flavor at all. This is one of the best stouts I’ve had in a long time, and I’m glad I put a couple of bottles of this in the cellar.

Pours a deep brown color with an aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Taste is similar, with a semi burnt flavor, burnt toast, and nuts. A slight bitter aftertaste after the swallow with a tinge of chocolate left on the palate.

GIJOE (707) - North Berwick, Maine, USA - JAN 26, 2015
Pours black as the ace of spades with a massive, frothy, tan head that stays an eternity of black nights. Wild, wooly, sticky lacing. Nose is malty and rich, but dominated by bright piney hop notes. Taste is decidedly bitter and hop heavy, but quite complex and appealing. Long-lingering bitter finish. Full bodied brew with lively carbonation. This is a very enjoyable brew.

Välbalanserad stout. Skumkrona 1-2 cm. Vackert espressofärgad kropp. Smakrik och komplex med kaffe och mörk choklad som dominerande smaker.

12 oz bottle pour to snifter. I’ve read several other recent reviews that wax eloquent on the qualities of this beer. Read them: they are right on. Great beer!

Aroma: Roasted chocolate, malt, char. Slight boozy smell. Appearance: Dark chocolate, black coffee color. Thin. right, crystal clear, golden, orange. Gorgeous, thick, creamy, coffee colored, three finger head that disappeared slowly. Taste: Malted, bitter chocolate, earthy, chewy. Slight tinge of alcohol in the front. Tightens up your mouth on the back. Alcohol is very well balanced with only a slight warmth present after the finish. Not complex. Palate: Dry, bitter. Overall: I poured this 12 oz. bottle into a glass in which I like to drink beer. Had big hopes for this beer and it was solid. RateBeer member Shark_Pants summed it best, "This is between an imperial stout and a black IIPA (sic) but probably just sits a little more on the stout side. Quite enjoyable, if unconventional.." #respectbeerbrethren

Pours brown/black with a thick head. Aroma of chocolate. Lingering chocolate flavor with notes of fruit. Sweet with moderate hops finish. Complex. This is my go-to imperial stout. But when I can get it, I prefer Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout. Both are exceptional, but the latter is slightly more complex up-front.

HeadyDE (534) - Delaware, USA - JAN 10, 2015
bottle best by 2019..pours a solid black hue with slight head..nose is a pleasant chocolate bar mixed with some vanilla and coconut in back..a bit of mild coffee as well..mouthfeel is solid all the way around..this is what a strong non barrel aged imperial stout should taste like..not overwhelming with booze or too much licorice action, all the way around very well done.chocolate malt is in perfect harmony..doesn’t drink anywhere near the 9%..more like half of that..very solid all around...

12 ounce bottle into snifter, best before 12/11/2017. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, toast, dark bread, citrus zest, pine, floral, grass, light smoke/char, and floral/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt and moderate citrus/pine hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, toast, dark bread, citrus zest, pine, floral, grass, light smoke/char and floral/roasted earthiness. Fair amount of pine/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, toast, dark bread, citrus, pine, light smoke/char, and floral/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt and moderate citrus/pine hop flavors; with a great bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, creamy, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Russian imperial stout style. All around great robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/roasted malt and moderate citrus/pine hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Seffle (212) - Mölndal, SWEDEN - JAN 9, 2015
Bottle from SB 150109. Pitch black with a brown lacing head. Complex nose with prunes over espresso and dark chocolate. Full malty flavour with the above and a adstringent bitterness that lingers nicely on the palate. Very good indeed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Jet black and completely opaque with small coffee coloured head. Rich aroma containing molasses, raisins, espresso coffee and dark chocolate with some citrusy black IPA smells as well. The taste has loads of sweetness, roastiness, bitterness and dryness - with all the flavours hinted at by the aromas, along with plenty of charcoal in the finish. Full bodied, sticky and has a light bite on the tongue. This is between an imperial stout and a black IIPA but probably just sits a little more on the stout side. Quite enjoyable, if unconventional.
