jvmiller (288), Bel Air, Maryland, USA May 17, 2007 Updated: Jun 18, 2007 A wonderful impy stout. Aroma is sweet and intoxicating: caramel, chocolate, coffee, dark fruit. One of the darkest beers I’ve ever seen. A black hole. Flavor: Hops up front, then subsides into rich complexity. Roasted malts, dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, very smooth and silky, although moderate carbonation. Aftertaste strong, like dark chocolate. Drinkability is unfortunately low, due to the strength. A couple is all I can handle. Delicious and wonderful.
Praetorian (56), Los Angeles, California, USA Oct 6, 2008 Black in color with a small, light brown head which quickly deminished. Little if any lacing. The aroma is of strong black coffee, hops, alcohol, oak and molasses. The flavor is of coffee grounds, dark fruits and oak with a strong alcohol backbone. The texture is syrupy with lively carbonation. I’d say its a wonderful stout with an aggressive and complex flavor. The only let down was the texture, otherwise, its superb. A DAMN GOOD BEER! ironchefscott (243), long beach, California, USA Oct 5, 2008 a good ris...lots of coffee flavors and roasted malt character....not as complex as some..... Jsawyer (11), , Pennsylvania, USA Oct 4, 2008 From the brewery. Deep black body with a little more than a finger of creamy head. Wonderful sweet hops up front followed by a dark chocolate malt scent. Taken in small sips its sweet and fruity, then bitter dark chocolate. Taken in larger drafts much more complexity. Still sweet and fruity but incredible roast chocolate malt, caramel, coffee, smokey. Dry finish with notable hop bitterness. Wonderful Beer. flatmatt (94), Northville, Michigan, USA Oct 4, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours black with a medium-large tan head. Dark chocolate and slightly dark fruit aromas, a bit of alcohol, and light coffee. Flavor is a pretty solid roasty coffee and chocolate, smokey, plus a distinct resinous hop presence. Good lacing down the glass. A very nice imperial stout. CaryTheDude (258), Ripon, Wisconsin, USA Sep 30, 2008 Jakebra crush. Had this after a Pumking. It was so refreshing, which is a first for a Imperial Stout for me. Pretty damn good. Lots of coffee and dark chocolate, some dark fruits, and a very, very bitter finish but it’s beautiful.
