obguthr (707), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Sep 22, 2007 Delicious bouquet of pear, coffee, and smoke, with grain and hops underneath. Opaque black pour with a thin brown head, good lacing. Dry and bitter initially with a sweet jab at midpalate. Lasting coffee finish. Alcohol is very well masked. Relatively little hop presence, which doesn’t bother me that much. Despite its strength it is not heavy or syrupy. I’ve had better tasting imp stouts, but few as well rounded. This was excellent!
timsilvia32 (206), born in Michigan, North Carolina, USA Sep 6, 2008 Cloudy black/brown pour. Very roasty aromas. Tastes of roasted malts, bakers chocolate, coffee, a little licorice. Quite full bodied. A little overly harsh with hoppiness. Good lingering coffee/bitter finish. Can’t complain about this one. kopher (114), USA Sep 5, 2008 Pours very dark thick brown, lots of light-brown head. Very nutty, roasty aroma, with tons of green olives and earthy hops at the end. Taste is sweet at the front, surprisingly sharply bitter at the finish. Lots of chocolate, but the lasting finish is hops. Mouthfeel is surprisingly light for a stout, a bit dry, but good.
Whiskeyjack (2), , Massachusetts, USA does not count Sep 4, 2008 Pleasant mild aroma with a note of fruitiness. Pours with an awesome, full, brown head that leaves a pretty lace pattern to the glass. The beer itself is practically opaque, as black as night, The flavour is fantasticly balanced between bitterness and sweetness. There are tastes of smoke and a dark chocolate present. The beer tastes great & has a full body with a creamy testure. mekju_baksa (9), Houston, Texas, USA does not count Sep 4, 2008 On Tap in snifter. Really fricking good. Rich and deep flavors that are subtle. Roasted malt complexity that demands attention. Just incredibly great! NDbeerdrinker (52), North Carolina, USA Aug 31, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown, almost black, with a 2 finger reddish cream head. Aroma is strong, hoppy and roasted malts. Taste is absolutely wonderful. Not overpowering, but strong. Just as it says, has the roasted malt flavors of chocolate and coffee but nice balance with hops that are still able to stand out. Definitely will drink this again.
