With a huge, Pacific Northwest hop aroma & character upfront, Storm King subsides into massive, roast malt complexity. More flavor than mere words can adequately describe. Rich and substantial, it will warm your heart.

12 oz bottle. Poured a deep, dark brown. Nearly opaque, with a creamy tan head. Aroma was a strong roasted malt. Delicious. Flavor was similar, very roasted malt. Other imperial stouts have a strong alcohol flavor but this was perfect, only a slight, warming alcohol flavor. There were some chocolate notes as well, which played well against the biterness. I’ve had much more bitter stouts. This was actually fairly sweet in comparison. Palate was thick but not syrupy. Overall a well-balanced imperial stout.

Drank with Marijn, Bram and Lennart in the Stone brewery bar (awesome place!) in Berlin. "Tuinbonen" taste? Complex taste, hop vs stout. Slightly coffee as well. Not bad. Bitter.

Bottle from The Beerhive, Edinburgh. Initial aroma is chocolate/caramel; roasted malt. The rich hop profile comes to the fore once in the glass. Pours jet black with a thick, light brown head. This being the first US stout I’ve had, the big American hop presence instantly sets it apart from traditional Irish/British stouts. Doesn’t have quite the chocolate/malt character I was anticipating (especially after the initial aroma). There is some coffee-like bitterness on the back end. Certainly a complex beer, and one that’s probably best enjoyed slowly.

Pours dark black with thick lacing and off-white to tan head. Aroma is citrus, roast coffee, dark chocolate and mint. Taste has cream, salt, burnt sweetness and a long bitter finish with full body. Nice bit of alcohol to end. Seriously strong flavours and interesting hybrid of black IPA and imperial stout, even if I’ve had better imperial stouts.
