3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours a dark brownish black colour with a massive pale brown head. The nose is a blend of super bitter hops (with notes of lemon, pine, resin and mint) and a ridiculous amount of roasted/burnt malt (coffee beans, dark choklad and some soil). Loads of acidic notes both from the hops and the malt. The flavour is of burnt malt - burnt pancakes, coffee beans, cocoa beans/really (really!) dark chocolate and burnt sugar - and very bitter hops with notes of citrus fruits, mint and resin. Some sweetness. Too much acid in the taste if you ask me. Pretty nice and round mouthfeel which (unfortunately) disappears in a cloud of bitterness. Salty finish with some peppary alcohol. There is no doubt, this is a a good beer. Itís just that Iím so effiní tired of super hoppy imperial stouts...

Interesting and unique for the style. Not as roasted as typical. Flavors of dark berries, bitter dark chocolate, coffee and licorice. As it warms, licorice becomes more pronounced. Hints of molasses and caramelized sugar.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2012 Vintage. I need to try this brew fresh. This 2012 vintage lost a lot of malty roasted character. Poured lovely black with tan head. Scent is mostly just booze and grain. Boozy bitter bites overwhelms malts throughout. Drink íem fresh, in my opinion. Bottle - Source Unknown

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
A very dark, reddish brown, bordering on black coloured beer with a frothy latte coffee coloured head. A light, but sweet chocolate, burnt sugar caramel aroma, plus a fruity hop aroma in the background. A rather thin mouthfeel. The taste is dominated by a huge hop flavour. Pithy citrus fruit, grassy and piney. The malt bill comes through later, with bitter chocolate, espresso coffee and caramel. The finish is well hop led, but the malty elements tempers the bitterness.

1.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
33o ml bottlw from the beer store in Pompano Beach Fl. Poured dark, deep brown with a frothy tan head. Aroma of some roast malt and a lively hop pine nose. Full creamy body, taste of smooth dark chocolate, dry lingering pinesol aftertaste ruins the ending completely.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: MAR 11, 2014 Serving: from bottle--purchased at Full Throttle Bottles.
Aroma: moderately sweet malt, alcohol and chocolate.
Appearance: average-sized, frothy, light-brown initial head with fair lacing and mostly diminishing longevity. Cola-brown/black body.
Taste: lightly acidic initial flavor and heavily sweet, toasty (almost burned) finish with average duration.
Palate: full body, syrupy texture and lively carbonation.
Overall: I liked the burned, toasty flavor, but overall the beer was too sweet.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(from notes) On draft at Basement Burger Bar on February 19. The pour is black, with a nice ring of off-white head and no lace to be found. The aroma is very solid. There is a strong licorice presence that overwhelms the malt and good solid roast characters. The flavor is great for a regular imperial stout. There is a great bitterness, backed up by strong roast and malt characteristics. There is a light sweetness on the finish and itís deliciously dry. The mouth feel is a bit thin for a good stout, and the aftertaste is bitter and dry. This is a good stout.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours a ruby-tinted, black/dark brown color with a thick, creamy, tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, dark fruits (plums, raisins), coffee, chocolate, and some rich toffee sweetness. Very nice aroma, though a bit richer than I care for. Taste pretty well follows the nose, with the roastiness very prominent at the end. Overall, this reminds more of a roasty barleywine than a stout. Good, but rich.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle served in a goblet.
Pours dark chocolate in color, nearly black in the glass, with a good, semi-durable tan head.
Aroma: complex & rich; markedly hoppy compared to the Samuel Smithís Imp. Stout that preceded it. In fact, more hoppy than malty.
Rcih flavor has a balanced hoppy/malty components, with a bit less sweetness than bitterness. Lasting aftertaste of coffee, hops and dark roasted grains.
Feel: full, smooth body with good carbonation.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark red towards black, nice yellowish brown head. Sour liqruish with mild hay. Burned brown sucer with mild flowertones, strong burned aftertaste that really grows mixed with alohol. Dry in the aftertaste. A bit watery.
