Let the beer slip slowly down and you can savour the explosive depth of it. At this strength you expect an almost treacle-like product, in a UK beer, but this is the perfect combination of everything you could ask for in a hoppy bitter and a dark stout. Fantastic.

Silky full palate with more caramel in the taste, as well as some coffee and chocolate. Both were balanced by a slightly bitter hop note. puboflyons (629), New Hampshire, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 6, 2010 Bottled on Dec 4, 09. It pours a thick, dark bark-like brown with a half-inch of frothy, glistening light brown head. The aroma is clearly well-hopped with a floral sensation. It is by far the chief scent with something a bit bready in the background. The body is full but the texture is slick. The taste is bitterly hopped and not what I would expect from a stout. It leaves an aftertaste. It looks and smells great but the taste is not quite as enticing to me. s0me0nesmind1 (11), Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jan 6, 2010 Bottle. Poured black with a light brown head. First aroma I caught was coffee the some malt with caramel and chocolate. Very interesting palate all around. Taste was less than expected, though - as the hops seemed to take a lot of presence over the aroma that I definitely enjoyed. Toxygen (414), Sanford, Florida, USA

IMO: not as good as Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout or Southampton Imperial Porter.
needs to age for 1-2 years so that the hops can mellow out. pete4999 (172), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 3, 2010 Bottle. Nice, opaque black pour with a tan head. Smell is a combo of coffee and caramel. Taste has a nice balance of bitter and sweet. Some coffee notes, again paired with some caramel flavor. Extremely creamy mouthfeel as well. Very enjoyable. Heavy malts and cereal aroma up front with some coffee and a light floral air. Nice full, somewhat creamy mouthfeel with light, crisp carbonation. A complex character with dark chocolate, cheese, and slightly burnt coffee. The same floral hoppy aroma creates the aftertaste. I very nice overall balance of flavors. A bit hoppier than I expected from a stout, but not too overpowering. I will definitely buy again. angrybeerman (124), Dublin, Ireland
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 2, 2010 Deep, strong black colour with good tan head which lasted for most of the drink. Wonderful sweet, fruity aroma. Taste was roasted and of hops with chocolate, coffee and caramel notes with a host of other flavours that I can’t quite put my finger on or remember. Complex and very well balanced Slightly bitter finish with a nice subtle burn. Pleasant aftertaste. Overall this was excellent and will definitely have this again. Wonder if they have this on tap anywhere...
