COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed locally at the Victory Brewery in Chester County, the Summer of Love Ale is a golden ale made with pale malts, German hops and Brandywine River water. This specific style of beer was chosen because it has a broad appeal and will be accessible for casual beer drinkers, but will still retain exciting hop notes.

The brew has a vibrant and refreshing pale color derived from its lean and refreshing malt body. And the initially floral aroma of hops segues into a well integrated, refreshing hop dryness of European heritage.

Bottle: pours a cloudy straw with a quickly disappearing white head. Some effervescence persists. Strong smell of bitter hops dominates the nose. The taste is much like the smell, bitter with notes of grapefruit. Dry finish that doesnít leave much of an aftertaste. Maybe some mineral water? This is an alright beer but not my cup of tea. Itís almost like a light IPA and is completely defined by the german hops. I prefer a more balanced beer but if you like light crisp hoppy beers, this may be worth a shot.

12oz Bottle, purchased at Zenoís - State College, PA. Fresh, malty aroma. Flavors are crisp, clean and bright, with a palpable rich freshness that makes it quite quaffable. Where most Golden Ales are listless, flawed, too chewy or flavorless, this one brings flavor to the table with big drinkability and enough intrigue to brink you back. Solid work. What I image Sparkling Ale or English table beer might really be.

Draft on tap at Whole Foods (Chicago, IL). Pours a nice golden yellow hue, a nice glow, but transparent. Gentle carbonation with a frothy decent bright white head that dies to a small film, laces small. Aromas are fairly clean, some gentle grassy hops, faint florals, and crisp cereal grains, bread dough. Clean. Initial is lighter bodied preaching some healthier hops than anticipated, with grass and florals, some spicy yeast, bread dough, and some fruity lemons, faint apple appeal. Into the backend lingering yeast and dry hops, lightly bitter but fairly earthy. Bread dough, some yeast, bread dough, a touch of apple fruit. Finish throws some lingering florals and dry hops, light yeast. The beer offers considerably more than the aroma and appearance let on. A very nice summer beer. It isnít complex, but definitely does the job. Sessionable, flavorful. Delightful summer beer.

UPDATED: JUL 18, 2011 On tap: The aroma consists of grass, light floral notes, and a touch of honey. Itís a transparent gold with a small white head that leaves behind some spotty lacing. The flavor starts with a quick light dose of honey and a touch of lemon. The finish has light-moderate grass and floral notes. Light bodied with light-moderate carbonation. Overall, reminds he a little of Quinnanan Falls Lager by Bellís. Itís been a while since Iíve had that...so I could be off, but itís the first thing that comes to minds when drinking this.

aroma is clean, salty wheat fields. fresh farmland breeze. appearance is polished lightened yellow, decent legs, filmy, wispy head. flavor is neutral bitterness without flavor to its character...lemon pith later revealed and even hints of lime zest. mouthfeel is ultra dry and crisp.

12 oz.bottle. $2 single @ Lemon Tree. Pours a standard gold or blond color, with just a touch of haze. Direct pour kicks up a manageable bubbly head. Smell has some pleasant light malts. Taste is much more hop forward than is usual for this style, and itís impressive. They mention only German hops, and Iím for that, but this is either loaded with green hops or thereís some American Cascades in there. Or a recessive malt profile just brings the hops up front. Quite tasty summer beer.
