Brewed locally at the Victory Brewery in Chester County, the Summer of Love Ale is a golden ale made with pale malts, German hops and Brandywine River water. This specific style of beer was chosen because it has a broad appeal and will be accessible for casual beer drinkers, but will still retain exciting hop notes.

The brew has a vibrant and refreshing pale color derived from its lean and refreshing malt body. And the initially floral aroma of hops segues into a well integrated, refreshing hop dryness of European heritage.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with white head...aroma and flavor of grassy, bitter hops, light citrus, soap, and a hint of grain. Flavor has more of a grapefruit pulp finish than it does a grassy one. Crisp, refreshing.

Very clear, pale, with very little foam. Dry malt flavor with only a hint of hop. Leaves a residual graininess.

Appearance: clear light gold, short fizzy white head. Aroma: cardboard, lemon zest, pie crust. Taste: as the aroma indicates, with a tick of light floral, grassy, and honeyed notes. Finish: finish is quick, except for a slightly unpleasant mineral astringency. Notes: Not up to their usual quality. Bottle from Total Wine & More in Fairfax, Virginia (Pickett Center).

just ok. There is an aroma here that turns me off from the start, as with most in this style. I was hopeful, as their prima pils is one of my favorites. I wish I could identify what it is that I don’t like about these types of beers, so I could convey it better.

Pale golden color. Grassy hoppy light nose. Some grass and pine nut notes. Light and refreshing.

On tap at Pour. Just ok for me. Can’t jump on the Victory bandwagon for some reason. Light pour and light taste with a finish that doesn’t quite work. I might consider this really, really cold after mowing the lawn. Pils-like. OK.

Draught @ Albion. Clear rich yellow with medium sized creamy white head, honey aroma, high carbonation, slightly bitter taste with honey flavor, medium finish. Nice brew for summer.
