On tap at Brick store Pub. Slight wheat aroma nice hops flavor. Suprisingly crisp for a bitter, not what I expected. I would drink again.

On cask at GL. Pours a light orange copper with a medium beige head. Aroma of orange peel, bitter hops and tangy apricot. Taste of faint orange peel and light bitter hops. Has a grassy and slightly tangy finish.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
On cask at Zeno’s Pub - State College, PA. A real meaty cast rise from the glass, confused and subdued. Some wood tones. Pours in a tarnished bronze, with minimal head. Flavor up front is just not enjoyable. It takes a while to work into this beer. At first a real languid, meaty punch, mingled with dead yeast, oak floor and old candy. Palate is a punishingly dry chemical wash. I feel like this isn’t in the best shape. But, after you work with it for a while, the mineral and oak character builds from the center. Even on cask, though, this has way too little carbonation. A real dead and flat feeling on the tongue. Hops play only as an acerbic tongue pinch, instead of as any singular recognizable flavor. This could have been much, much better.

Cask at Victory - Quite drinkable and enjoyable. This bitter has a nice malt backbone and a modest amount of hop bitterness. Slighly sweet.

UPDATED: JUL 16, 2008 Rerate: Tap at Blind Tiger. This is in much better condition than the last time. Pale amber beer with a thick nitro head. Aroma is quite nice. Woody/earthy hops with a lightly zesty spiciness, a bit of earthiness and fresh Maris Otter malts. Flavour is okay, nicely earthy and spicy, bready and a little bit chewy. Light orange marmalade. It’s a pretty nice bitter, really.
Tap at Blind Tiger. Deep amber/ruby beer with a creamy white head. A bit of spicy/herbal hop flavour. Light buttery aroma. Bitterness is a bit catty but with a nice minerally component as well. Watery palate. Light earthiness. Meh... doesn’t really work for me.

Cask @ Victory. Poured a fairly hazy copper color with a good sized almost creamy off-white head. The aroma was grainy with some hops mixed in. The flavor started out worty. There was an earthy and citrus hop finish with a light bitterness. Very light bodied and semi-dry. Dull mouthfeel with zero CO2 even for a cask.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
On cask at the brewery, soft and refreshing with great head. A little thin but a nice low ABV alternative with enough character to keep it interesting.

What a fantastically palatable, sessionable real ale style English Bitter. Impeccably balanced sweet malt base and great hop character that is smooth not bitey. Very clean refreshing flavor with a hint of ’amber’ in the malt and a dry hop, crisp finish. Delectable. I highly recommend.
Hope this is helpful.
