pobenohne (504), Northern Liberties, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 10, 2005 Big bottle. Pours a clear pale yellow, super carbonation, giant foamy head that then quickly dissipates. Straw, hay, dandelions, and some dust and sweat. Delicious, gorgeous Saison, up there with Hennepin and DuPont. notwoohoo (109), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 26, 2005 This is a saison with complexity. Earthy with aromas of spices, a bit of hops, some pineapple, and a bit of damp soil. This is a beer that I could drink after working in the fields of a farmhouse in Belgium. Nice and thick head with a golden tint. I love the yeasty and fruity dry finish. MrBlizzard (4), Pennsylvania, USA does not count Nov 11, 2006 This is a great Saison especially considering it is brewed in Downingtown, PA. Wonderful mouthfeel, just enough spice and sweetness. Many American craft brewers over emphasize the "spice" in a Saison but this is not one of them. This is a brew I could sit back and enjoy with no criticism. Dickinsonbeer (2505), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 14, 2005 750 ml bottle, purchased at somerville supersaver in NJ. Initial pour is slightly hazy and very pale yellow but subsequent pours become more and more cloudy and turn it gold. Initial head is massive and pretty long lasting, but fades eventually. Doesnt leave any lace for some reason? Aroma is initially very phenolic and spicy when cold which is really nice. SOme hints of salt, farmhouse, clove, cork, earth and hops as well. As it warms I noticed some more fruitiness, and by the time it reaches room temp there is considerable banana in the aroma-turning it into a hefe-like smell. Flavor is quite complex at first when it is chilled with lots of that classic saison yeastiness, some citrus, fair amount of pils malt, and a good amount of hops for balance and bitterness. I think the bitterness and the astringency combine pretty well with the moderately dry finish for this saison. Even with the dry palate it still has a deceptively smooth and creamy palate. I really liked this one a lot when I first tried it, but as it warmed it turned more to a weizen- so I would say drink it cold to cool and drink it quick. Very refreshing on a hot day like today. mkobes (2022), New York, USA Jul 22, 2005 750 ml bottle. Bright pale yellow in color with a nice fluffy white head. Malty spicey hoppy aroma. Very light and refreshing. Malty hoppy flavor. Crisp. Peppery. Finish is spicey and malty. Drinkable. Very nice.
