kassner (429), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA May 15, 2008 I had this beer at Eulogy in Philly in Bottle. What a really unusual beer, despite the makers claim for simplicity. Sort of like a belgian, with sweet ether and alcohol notes, but also like a barley wine like their old horizontal. Great golden color and finishes with a good amount of hop to clean the palate like most Victory beers. mistersinalin (367), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA May 11, 2008 Silky smooth leggings! This beer is a mud bath of warm and luxurious flavors. The strength of the booze hides in the shaodows and then jumps out. Well worth the wait. zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA May 10, 2008 Citrus aroma on an amber to red body. Banana esters from lotsa sugar. Nice, mild initial flavor, with a good kick after. Lacks the date where the label says bottled on: shame, shame. Raisin says "hi". Better as it warms. A little sweet and sticky, but it is 12%abv and see through, how else can beer do that? Kalli (474), Falun, Sweden May 10, 2008 Pear flavoured boiled sweets (well, it’s a local thing...) and malty aroma with a hint of... vomit? Malty fruit body and yeast flavour. theisti (1637), Leawood, Kansas, USA May 8, 2008 750 ml bottle from mrbendo, shared with haukur and Kalli and haukur’s tasting on 1 May 2008. Pour is orange-amber mostly clear with a 1 inch slightly off-white head. Visible carbonation. Aroma of ripe pears, Belgian yeastiness and a hint of old laundry. Karl mentioned it smelled like someone got sick, I didn’t get that, but an interesting observation. Taste is sweet fruit - more of the pear and big Belgian yeastiness. Finish has some sugar sweetness. anders37 (4516), Malmö, Sweden May 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity spicy malty aroma with hints of yeast and alcohol. Sweet malty warming and slightly burning malty spicy yeasty flavor. The finish is long warming malty with some spicy yeasty alcohol hints in the aftertaste. A few years in the celler and it would have been even better. ChainGangGuy (2522), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA May 4, 2008 Appearance: Pours a hazy, amber body with a medium-sized head that quickly fizzles out.
Smell: Boozey scent of raisins and candi sugar set against notes of toasted malts, dried orange peel, and yeast.
Taste: Toasty maltiness sweetened with a big dose of candi sugar. A sip of ethanol. Faint hint of citrus. You get plenty of raisins crammed into your mouth delivering a juicy acidity. Flash of plank wood. Peppery hints on the exceedingly warm finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Pretty high carbonation.
Drinkability: It’s all kinds of decent, even with the raw, searing booziness. BeerGeyser (18), San Marcos, California, USA May 2, 2008 At 12% a pretty decent beer. The alcohol flavor was a little more apparent than expected. No joke, a very strog beer. One bottle and you are feeling pretty good. The aroma was "banana like" which is definitely indicative of a beer made with Belgain yeast. Not as banana like as other beers that use the Belgain yeast strain but one of the strongest I have tasted. The slightly sweet aftertaste makes you come back for more. This Pennsylvania brew left quite an impression on this Penn State graduate. It gets better the more you drink it.
