blklab2007 (932), Connecticut, USA Mar 28, 2008 750 bottle corked and caged poured into a Trappist glass has a light carbonation and a thin head that quickly dissipated. color is a dark ruby orange with a decent amount of fine sediment floating about. smell has dark fruit, cherry, some sweet and sour, and yeast. quite a nice nose of fruit spice and funk with the alcohol being totally hidden. mouth feel is medium and has a frothy carbonation making it more full. flavors of spiced yeast, less fruit then in the nose, malt, and some funk. definitely a no fooling around strong ale but does become a little boozy once it warmed too much. DocHop (278), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Mar 28, 2008 Pours a pretty dark amber/copper color with a thick and frothy off-white head. Aroma of fruit and spices as well as yeast and some caramel malts. Delicious sweet raison/fruity taste at first and a nice caramel body with only a little alcohol on the finish. Hides the 12% extremely well. Finish is ultra smooth. Beerman6686 (1263), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 27, 2008 Pours a cloudy redish orange color with hardly any head watsoever. Aroma of sweet malt, candy sugar, and alcohol, Tastes sweet with a bit of a hop bitterness with a strogn alcohol finish. dkachur (2313), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Mar 25, 2008 750 mL bottle from Harris Teeter Barracks Road in Charlottesville. Pours orange-ish with a thin head. Yeasty aroma with apple and grape notes. Nice taste of caramel and dark fruits. Lively and effervescent. sawyej26 (18), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 11, 2008 Spicy wheat aroma typical of its style. Dark amber-copper body with decent carbonation. Strong wheat flavor with hints of hops and slightly malty with refreshingly dry finish. Exemplar of Belgian Ale. robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Mar 10, 2008 i would drink 500 beer and i would drink 500 more...
my 500th!!! purchased at 99 bottles in federal way, washington.
pour is heavy carbonation, copper with a red tint, large light tan head, excellent lacing.
smell is pear, apricot, some caramel, some spice, floral.
taste is fruit, caramel, roasted walnuts, malt, some citrus, end is tart and sticky. tagz (334), USA Mar 8, 2008 750. pours hazy brown with a moderate white head. nice fruity yeast and light malt aroma. taste brings in some pear, and other tripel like flavors, but this is dry like a golden ale. alcohol bite is present but not at all unpleasant. adds a nice burn and makes you take your time in sipping this one down. the malt profile comes out more as it warms. i liked this a lot. the high abv pushes back the more subtle elements of the beer, but overall an excellent brew. JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Mar 1, 2008 750 from Whole Foods, Raleigh. Pours a nice copper, with some gleaming amber in there to give it brightness. Fulsome head and a potent aroma, malty and spicy. The body is substantial, if a bit slick - not so much bready as liqueur-ish to me. Comes on with some initial spice, with currants and apples in there along with some clove and sugar. Doesn’t finish quite so well, with a mildly dank aftertaste that doesn’t suit the beer so much. But it’s certainly a good one overall.
