UCLABruin (34), Los Angeles, California, USA Feb 29, 2008 Pours a copper-orange with a thick cream head. Aroma is sweet yeast, light grain scent. Flavor is sweet, full-mouth malt, slight alcohol at end (but doesn’t taste like 12% abv). great beer hiddenvariable (194), pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 28, 2008 sampled at kelly’s 2008 hell with the lid off. pours a cloudy straw yellow with a thick cream colored head that really doesn’t want to fade. lots of belgian tripel esters, with pears, apples, spices, and dark bready malt scents. taste of raisins, pears, spicy yeast, and some caramel malts. light bittersweet finish, coating and creamy mouthfeel. solid. AtlAggie (131), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Feb 22, 2008 750 ml. Color is a deep, murky honey brown. Pours with a nice two finger, creamy head. Aroma slightly sweet, hints of citrus, also malts. Moderate amount of carbonation, slightly slick mouthfeel. Taste is spicy, with a nice balance between bitter and sweet, with bitter winning out towards the finish. Hints of yeast and floral flavors too. Nice brew, you can definitely feel the 12% after drinking a bit. BenDover (125), Texas, USA Feb 13, 2008 750ml bottle. Pours a nice amber, thick tan foam. Smell of bread, citrus, some spices, very sweet and malty but very much like a Belgian. The 12% abv is well hidden in the flavor, but gives a nice pleasant tingle in the gut. Love this stuff. Pwn3d (1036), Manhattan, New York, USA Feb 13, 2008 750ml bottle corked, one of the hardest tops to get off i’ve ever seen... (thats what she said), but for serious the cork broke and i had to use a screw. Anywho, The pour was about average for the style, maybe a bit better. Nose is of coriander, citrus, hops. Taste is what makes this brew stand out spicy, floral, and yeasty notes blend near perfectly.. hard to pick up on the 12%. Leaves a short bitter finish. Body is medium.. vaguely syrupy. santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 7, 2008 Bottled Oct 6 2007. Smells like maple syrup, with caramel and toffee aromas. Cherry, dough and date notes as well, with noticeable alcohol. Elegant burgundy red with a tiny tan head. Super hot taste, with tons of strong sugars and unbalanced malts. Very sticky, spicy and sweet, with notes of ginger and clove. It’s quite tasty, with many fruit layers unfolding and a hint of graininess, but it needs many years in order to be tamed. A great take on an Abt for sure. fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA Feb 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear copper with a small quickly fading white head that leaves minimal lacing. Aroma of sweet malt, light caramel, light fruit, and alcohol. Taste is the same as aroma. Full mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness and warm but never hot alcohol. Very good. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Feb 7, 2008 13 months in the bottle. Clear copper color with a fleeting head. Nice cotton candy sweet, mildly boozy smell. Med. bodied with a prickly mouthfeel. A tangy, citrusy fruit taste stays tart to the end. Finishes as a boozy gut warmer.
As the brew warms the flavor turns syrupy sweet. Belgians are still masters of the Quads. 92205(82704 bot)
