AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Feb 7, 2008 13 months in the bottle. Clear copper color with a fleeting head. Nice cotton candy sweet, mildly boozy smell. Med. bodied with a prickly mouthfeel. A tangy, citrusy fruit taste stays tart to the end. Finishes as a boozy gut warmer.
As the brew warms the flavor turns syrupy sweet. Belgians are still masters of the Quads. 92205(82704 bot) Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Feb 4, 2008 From a 750ml bottle--Poured a deep amber-copper body with a thick white head. Nose of candy sugar and Belgian yeast. Apply and bitter sweet. Some bubblegum hints in there, too. Strong burst of alcohol in finish as beer warmed up. Very nicely constructed brew. Beershine (2677), Hue, Vietnam Feb 1, 2008 Hey Big Boy, strong and powerful. Deep ruby jewel tone crowned by an inch of thick white foam. Nose is candy, watermelon, apple, and floating alcohol. Slick, soft mouthfeel. Flavor is cherry pie filling. One dimensional. A potent sipper but lacks the depth and complexity to make it a compelling beer. The backbone makes me think it’d be a good one to verticalize. Collint (450), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Jan 30, 2008 Big boy bottle thanks to TikiE. Poured a strange hazy orange color. My half of the beer did not contain the sediment like my roomates, because he got the last pour. Aroma of yeast, caramel, plum and scotch alcohol presence. Great beer for a belgium style, Once again, Victory hasn’t let me down yet!!!! TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Jan 30, 2008 Amazing smell, smells a bit like the Rochefort 10, and reminds me of a nice Chimay! Nice froathy head that disapears quickly the appearance is unique with a nice hazy orangish color with lots of sedement. Glad I got this one, need to hit up the local beer and wine store more often! DannyP (29), Connecticut, USA Jan 30, 2008 A great abbey style beer. Pours golden amber with a small white head.
Aroma is of malt with a good dose of hops.
You can definitely taste the 12%, but to me that’s not a bad thing. Wonderful mix of malt and hop flavors.
Another success by Victory. SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Jan 24, 2008 Copper in color with a bit of red. The nose is filled with bread dough, caramel, banana, orange zest, baking spices and malt. In the mouth the beer has very solid weight and a lingering finish. The flavors follow that of the nose and linger on the finish. This is a wonderful beer that hides its 12% alcohol and is dangerously drinkable. While it may improve with bottle aging, it drinks great now. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Jan 22, 2008 6 months old or so. Pours mahogany with a small off-white head. Nose has just a faint hint of alcohol, very well masked for 12%. Flavor is a bit hot, but this beer is still young. Bready caramel flavors, fruity towards the finish. Some earthy woodiness comes from the toasted grain flavors. Spiced and earthy hops find themselves in the finish. Starting to pick up dryness, but this beer isn’t quite to its prime yet, although still a nice brew in its own.
