Commercial Description:
So simple in its creation, so magnificent in its maturity, this wonderful ale begins with Nature's most humble offerings, water, malted grains and hops. Our soulful yeast breathes life and depth into each brew. The steady hand of time orchestrates this alchemy into the splendid ale before you. Cheers!

750 ml bottle. Poured a dust-storm brown with plenty of cloudiness. The head was decent and just a little orange off-white. ABV isn’t noticeable in the aroma. Light and yeasty smell that’s surprisingly mellow. Citrus smell is most similar to grapefruit. ABV is noticeable in the taste. Strong yeasty and bitter citrus flavor with some spicy licorice too. The beer also has an intense floral flavor. I’m not able to drink this beer in mouthfuls; this beer must be sipped. The flavor is a little too intense. The abv also stands out. On the plus, one bottle and I’m good for a nap.

Had this Many times. Malty with cloudy apperence. Plum, raisin, light caramel flavor. Sweet. Some alcohol in the finish. It seems that I get different flavors in different bottles.

750ml bottle from Bevmo. Pours a nice cloudy copper color with a short lived off white head, that had minimal lacing. The aroma was strong with spices, malts, alcohol and dried plums. The flavor was dominated by a distinct, and distracting, hard alcohol taste. Other flavors in the background were caramel, malts, and toffee. I am unable to evaluate the hops as the alcohol taste keeps getting in the way. The mouthfeel is full and satisfying. The finish is long with a big alcohol burn. Overall: This brewer really must find a way to hide the alcohol better. Not recommended.

Draft at Barcade. I only had a couple sips of this one, but it was sweet malt, fruit, and yeast. Good mouthfeel, and the alcohol was well hidden.

750ml - Brewed 08/27/04 - Indy tasting Sept 07 - Aroma is sweet malt, alcohol and yeast. OK, I admit that this is all I have written down. I have an 04 in the cellar and will do a proper rating later.

Bottle, shared. Pours a nice brownish-red color, quickly-dissipating white head. The aroma is malt with dark fruit and apricot notes thrown in. Taste is crystal malt with apricot, dark fruit, and bready characteristics as well. Alcohol dominates the aftertaste, but it thankfully doesn’t overwhelm the beer. Surprised this is called a Belgian Strong Ale here, I thought it was a Quad. Regardless of the style, it’s a very good beer.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 28 Sep 2007) Reddish brown colour, hazy, with brief white head. Fruity, malty nose with dried fruit, apricots and marzipan. Fruity, malty taste with notes of dried apricots, fruitcake and marzipan. Vinous with alcohol sweetness throwing a decent punch towrds the finish. Warming and nice.
