3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Very strong Ale but smooth in flavor. Caramel & toasted somewhat nutty taste. Dark amber in color. Hint of alcohol on finish. Extremely drinkable for a beer this strong.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at Pump. Rich caramel, quite sweet and syrupy, dried fruit, honey, vanilla, brioche, lingering sweet finish. Good stuff but a bit heavy and sweet for my liking.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma caramel, bread, cereal, alcohol, banana,
Appearance amber, clear, minimal head, white foam,
Taste heavy cloying sweetness, lightly bitter,
Palate medium body, fizzy,
Overall a very sweet malty beer that hides the 12% very well. I would suggest this beer to a friend

4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Appearance: dark amber in color off-white head. Not quite clear but maybe from chill haze. A lot of bubbles streaming from the bottom in duvel glass.
Smell: a lot of apple and pear initially. Followed by dark fruits and the Belgian yeast is obvious.
Taste: the taste follows the nose in regards to the Apple and the pear. A little bubble gum on the finish and even slight hints of oak and vanilla.
Overall: medium carbonation and chewy mouthfeel. Hop flavors are almost non-existent. Being my first Belgian style beer besides stone points unknown IPA, this beer was pleasing and was more appealing as it warmed to room temperature. I will definitely buy again, once you get past the sweetness it is a very balanced beer

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice hazy deep orange color. Almost no head. Subtle aroma of caramel and I think what ratebeer suggests as earthy or basement aromas might apply here. Some wood in there as well maybe and a light fruitiness resembling black grapes. And maybe vanilla? Anyway, lots of stuff going on in the aroma, but in a subtle way. I like it! The taste is not surprisingly dominated by the sweetness, but not left unbalanced, since a light sourness and bitterness follows. The taste follows up on the looks and the aroma: caramel and vanilla is present I think, but also a taste of prunes, which I really like. The bottle I opened could have used just a tiny bit more carbonation, since it was close to still, but all in all this beer is a great sophisticated pleasure.

4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours an amber with an creamy off-white head that has a moderate retention. The aroma is a subtle malt. This has a malty, caramel and fruity flavor that hangs to the finish with a slight bitterness. A nice chewy palette.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 ml bottle from Homer321 - thanks for opening up the rotter for me, Sean! 2009 vintage. Pours a cloudy amber with a finger of off-white head that settles into a lasting thick ring and film. Notes of caramel, sweet bread, faint spice, dried berries, cardboard, esters, raisins, gold figs, and fruitcake. Medium-bodied, with a smooth mouthfeel and low to moderate carbonation. Old, but surprisingly good for its age. I need to rate a fresher one, obviously.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
A: Lighter than expected chestnut with a big dose of floaties but a prodigious 3-4 finger light beige head with decent retention and peaks of lacing.
S: Major fruity aroma here with fig, plums, red grapes, currants, bananas, and orange marmalade all combining with some mild herbal hopping to create a huge malt blast. The entire aroma experience is accentuated by further fruity yeast esters with a mild, phenolic, clove character
T: The flavor also assaults with malt, first with dark fruits like red and purple grapes, figs, cherries, plums, and raisins, all dosed with a heavy dose of rum-infused honey. Hops provide some balancing herbal-based bitterness. Yeast esters play a big role with banana and some lightly sulfuric apricot and peach character as well. Bitterness is low -- this is a malt wallop all the way, and a good one too. Vinous without getting wondery -- a masterful beer all-around. The alcohol is tame and in the background.
M: Silky smooth with nowhere the 12% detectable anywhere. Sumptuous feel overall with moderate carbonation to keep it from feeling too thick and viscous.
O: This was indeed a good one to put away -- wow -- huge dark fruit character with drinkability.
