roder60 (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 28, 2005 Pours a hazy golden color with a huge amount of froathy white head. Aroma is orangey, spicey, floral, and a bit yeasty. Flavor is sour and alcohol, fruity, yet sweet finish. Overall, i though this was good, but it lacked something that the grand cru had. Very similar to the grand cru, just not as complete. definitely lose something with the extra abv. Jine (889), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Dec 28, 2005 12.25.05 Merry Christmas. A very powerful belgian style ale. Got very excellent as it warmed. Somewhat syrupy with lots of fruit aromas and flavors. Solid. Made me hungry like the wolf. TipsyMcStager (900), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Dec 27, 2005 floral aroma with spicy yeast. Pours a cloudy orange, floaties, thin head. Sweetness and peppery up front, with a mild earthiness. Dry, with warming alcohol finish. Maybe it was the weed talking, but I wrote down that this tasted amazing! presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Dec 27, 2005 Nice head. Copper coloured. Belgian, alcohol and ruit aroma. Foamy light head. Light pepper flavour. Mild flavour-wise for a big beer. Dry, no finish except for the alcohol. JoshuaB (422), Detroit, Michigan, USA Dec 24, 2005 Dark mahogany, some nice speckling and some light white head. Nose is lots of fruity esters, along with generous sweet malts. Yeasty. Taste is pretty sweet upfront, light fruits combined with the sweet malts. There is an ever present yeast note that rounds out the beer with a slightly bitter finish. Could use a bit more complexity, but solid nonethless. SuIIy (1405), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA Dec 24, 2005 750ml bottle. (Forgot who I got this from via trade, I apologize and thank you) Pours a syrupy redish color with minimal white head. Nose is fruity, light hops, oranges. Taste is very sweet and syrupy, light hops here and there, some candied fruits, a smooth mouth feel with a light bitter finish. Nejhleader (924), Lemoyne, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 16, 2005 A golden orange colour, a bit cloudy, good carbonation, exactly what an ale should look like. Frothy cream head. Has a sweet matlty/hoppy aroma if that is possible. Alcohol is slightly detectable. Bit of a dry and bitter finish. Has a taste I can’t really define, but it is okay, not the best taste. Overall pretty good stuff. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Dec 14, 2005 Bottled March 29, 2005. Poured into a Corsendonkey Punch glass. Clear effervescent and reddish orange. Thick and lasting white head on top. Candied fruits, caramel, plum, and a dose of alcohol aroma. Extremely sweet flavor with orange peel, honey, plum, light spice, and an alcohol finish. Mouthfeel is thick and chewy with good carbonation but not so much that the mouthfeel is rough or rocky. This beer is an asskicker and I’d like to drink an aged one someday.
