joeec5 (204), bayonne, New Jersey, USA Jul 18, 2005 Strong aroma of sweet candi sugar, belgian yeast character and alcohol. Taste is the same with sweet malty dominating the beginning and alc the finish of the sip. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 13, 2005 pours dark amber with a big fat lasting tan head, aroma of spice, floral hops and fruit, good smooth taste even more so for 12% good mixture of spice and hops, the body is excellent on this beer, wow i really loved this, very drinkable (i mean sippable). paul9639 (116), New Hampshire, USA Jul 11, 2005 Pours dark amber with a nice head. Aroma is caramel, floral, with a hint of vanilla. Flavor is carmel, spices, and hops. Great beer. stubby (325), Santee, California, USA Jun 28, 2005 This is one of those beers that has to be at the right temperature. (Well, I guess you could say that about most beers...) Right at cellar temp, 45-55, it’s fabulous. Reminiscent of a standard Belgian ale like DeKoninck or Rare Vos but jacked up on the alcohol. At fridge temp it has a nostril cleaning alcohol vapor lock on the face. Good stuff. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Jun 26, 2005 Nice Belgian ale. Pours a thin amber color. The head was massive. As this warmed it got a lot better - very sweet. Alcohol is concealed fairly well but can still be detected despite the fruity sweet aroma/finish. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jun 25, 2005 Tap. Transparent amber in color with a creamy, slowly dissipating head. Smells a lot like a standard amber ale - caramel malts and a robust nutty presence - thrown in with some toffee and cinnamon. Creamy and heavy with some strong suggestive "pucker-up" material. Caramel sweetness in abundance, along with what seems to be like almond extract. Detectable dark candi sugar. Carbonation is moderate; palate feel stinging yet honest, with a hop profile like a tripel. Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Jun 22, 2005 Pours ambery red with an off-white lasting head and exceptional lacing that lasts throughout the entire tasting. Smells of grapes, tulips, raisins, caramel, bananas, flowers and sugar cane. The smell is almost overwhelming to the senses given how much is packed into this one. Tastes of caramel, nuts, prunes, raisins, and figs with a warming alcohol finish. Overall, a nice beer, but it needs a year or two of aging to help mellow out some of the sting of the alcohol notes. GoldenSpunky (120), Rochester, New York, USA Jun 21, 2005 Year old bottle that I slowly let warm after openning. Aroma of slowly backing bread with jellys and jams of the farm. Appears medium thick with suspended carbonation. Meduim sweet flavor with a bitter turning to ever so slightly bitter finish. Palate has a full body with slight carbonation and a long slightly oily finish. Overall this is a great belgian style which masks the alcohol content well. Very flavorful and another victory for Victory.
