elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Feb 24, 2009 Sampled from bomber. Pours orange with a medium sized head. Aroma is heavy on yeast, soil, and caramel. Flavor has earthy tones, ripe fruit, caramel and heavy spicing – orange peel, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon. Back palate has some dry chocolate to boot. Finishes long with savory yeast/wheat flavors. Really nice. blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA Feb 22, 2009 bottle, copper colored pour with some foamed milk head around the edges, aroma has some malty sugars, clove or spices, some fruit also, flavors of cotton candy, peppery spice and plum pudding, good lingering finish, solid beer nuplastikk (1157), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Feb 13, 2009 Unfair rating warning..
750ml 2002 vintage, bottled march 2003, opened 2009. What a waste. Cognac aroma devastates. An inkling of what once was. Remains light on the palate, but the tastes have turned quite unpleasantly sour and pungent. Gets better as it airs out and warms, creamier and milder. A great beer fresh, maybe not so great after 6 years. forsides (66), union, New Jersey, USA Jan 29, 2009 amber pour... some head that disappears. fruity spicy smell, but not as strong as i expected (have been battling a cold). taste is the same, but bolder... fruity, spicy, raisin, and caramel, with a warming alcohol finish that lingers on the tongue. another good brew from one of my favorite overall breweries CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Jan 28, 2009 Crushed with Jakebra. Lots of sweet, dark fruits in there. Incredibly full-bodied. Creamy. Some hop presence in the finish surprisingly. One excellent beer, but exhausting to drink. bleeng (587), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA Jan 25, 2009 750 bottle. Light brown small head. Nose of spices and alcohol. Taste of spices, sweetness, alcohol, sticky. This bottle is past it’s prime. drjay44 (756), Salida, Colorado, USA Jan 23, 2009 750 ml. bottle. Bottled on 2/26/08. Pours an initially exuberant ,becoming thinnish, head of poor duration with minimal lacing over a slightly cloudy coppery amber body.....nose is of the usual Belgian suspects, dried fruits such as figs and cherries....tastes of more dried fruit, figs, raisins, cherries, the finish is slightly harsh and a bit overly astringent, this may be the 12% ETOH.....mouthfeel is good, with a lovely texture to it. I need to taste more from this brewery. TOSG55 (75), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA Jan 19, 2009 Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange-brown, with a foamy head. Very attractive beer. Aroma of caramel and dark fruits. The flavor is nice, with strong notes of caramel and raisins. Alcohol and brown sugar in the finish. The mouthfeel is very smooth, particularly given the 12% ABV. An excellent brew, very reminiscent of an Abt/Quad, particularly the Rochefort 8.
