3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Beautiful looking bomber into a Trappist glass. Clear golden amber color, very thin white head. Aroma of heavy malt, booze, fruits (apricot, pear, white grapes) and some yeasty spices. Taste adds caramel malt, candy-like sweetness, more alcohol, more spices, some hop bitterness and bready notes. Fully body, oily texture with a long finish. Some alcohol burn in the end. Balanced for sure, definitely a sipper.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle into snifter. Hazy orange-brass, quickly dissipating white head. Wonderful nose of sweet dried apricot, biscuit, touch of cinnamon or clove? In the mouth, high alcohol sweetness but not as much as one might expect from 12%. Malty, long finish that evolves from sweet to fruit. Heavy on it’s own, but balances nicely with a chicken adobo of all things -- I think because the vinegar in the dish adds a needed contrast to the thick sweetness of the brew.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a beautiful amber/orange with a off white brownish head. Lots of malt aromas of bread, toffee, and and some chocolate. There are also some citrus and and spruce. It has a medium to heavy sweetness and almost no bitter. This beer is almost a desert. The body with medium to full and has a creamy and fluffy aroma that fills the mouth with even the smallest sip. It’s a little too sweet for my taste and has almost no bitterness to balance it out.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
"didn;t quite seduce my soul, but it was a solid beer. thick and heavy, but also hid the abv pretty well (less warming than the 11% old horizontal). aroma sweet and yeasty...a touch funky (pony blanket) as it warmed. complex flavor of candied fruits, malt, yeast, spicy hops, dry. huge body, almost cloying. overall, a solid beer."

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle into chalice, bottled on 3/13/2014. Pours slightly cloudy orange/copper color with a 1 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, plum, fig, apricot, pear, apple, light banana, clove, black pepper, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toast, biscuit, candi sugar, herbal, grass, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/bready malt, and earthy hop flavors; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, apricot, pear, apple, light banana, clove, black pepper, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toast, biscuit, candi sugar, herbal, grass, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy/peppery yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, apricot, pear, apple, light banana, clove, black pepper, caramel, toffee, toast, biscuit, candi sugar, herbal, grass, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic balance, robustness, and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/bready malt, and earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/yeast spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly slick mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible quadrupel style! All around awesome complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/bready malt, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.
