"didn;t quite seduce my soul, but it was a solid beer. thick and heavy, but also hid the abv pretty well (less warming than the 11% old horizontal). aroma sweet and yeasty...a touch funky (pony blanket) as it warmed. complex flavor of candied fruits, malt, yeast, spicy hops, dry. huge body, almost cloying. overall, a solid beer."

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle into chalice, bottled on 3/13/2014. Pours slightly cloudy orange/copper color with a 1 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, plum, fig, apricot, pear, apple, light banana, clove, black pepper, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toast, biscuit, candi sugar, herbal, grass, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/bready malt, and earthy hop flavors; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, apricot, pear, apple, light banana, clove, black pepper, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toast, biscuit, candi sugar, herbal, grass, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy/peppery yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, apricot, pear, apple, light banana, clove, black pepper, caramel, toffee, toast, biscuit, candi sugar, herbal, grass, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic balance, robustness, and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/bready malt, and earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/yeast spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly slick mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible quadrupel style! All around awesome complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, dark/bready malt, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bomber from 8/10/2006. 8 year old bottle. Copper with thinner head. Alcohol and malt sweetness in aroma. Smells big. Flavor is also big but balanced, akin to old English barley wine. This is big, bold and tasty even for being old and poorly handled over the years.

Transfer from BA review on 11-17-12-
Poured from 750 ml bottle into chalice glass
Appearance – The beer pours a red-amber color with a one finger white head that fades relatively fast upon fading a moderate level of lacing is left on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is sweet with a great mix of dark and light fruit aromas. Apple, tangerine, and pear make up some of the lighter fruit with raisin, fig and plum representing the darker fruits. With these aromas are some yeast and spice smells which meld well with the fruit giving a light mulled wine like aroma.
Taste – The taste begins with a big hit of the sweet lighter fruits that was detected from the nose. Apple and pear are the strongest but are soon met with dark fruit flavors. Fig, raisin, and cherry all develop more strangely as the taste advances on further and begin to mix with a yeasty and Belgian spice flavor that comes more toward the end. While at 12 % abv, only a very light boozy taste is detected at the end of the taste with overall a fruity and lightly spiced flavor being left to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was just above average in terms of creaminess with a carbonation level that was just a tad under normal for a quad. While the creaminess matched the spice flavors nicely a slightly higher carbonation level may have giving it a bit of the “prickly” taste that might have complemented the mix of fruit flavors nicely.
Overall – A nice sweet and fruity quad that even at 12 % abv is very drinkable with very little boozy taste influence. A good beer to try if you get the opportunity.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
It has a hazy orange amber colored body which was a little lighter than I had expected. With in it there are some small bits of yeast sediment floating around. On top the head which started out at about two finger tall settles down to just a light ring of foam around the edge of the glass. Lacing is very slick and slippery. Wow, this one lets you know right away that it’s a big serious beer. The aroma has big boozy character with strong fruity/estery yeast notes reminiscent of raisons and stone fruits. Again wow, there is some warmth here from the abv but it’s not harsh. It just adds a warm slow sipping character to the overall picture with also brings good estery yeast, sweet malt and light hops. I get notes of apricot, peaches, golden raisons and red pear. Hop flavor comes out a bit towards the finish but overall it ends fairly sweet with a warm boozy touch. Its texture is smooth but still carbonated and pleasant.

Riktigt gott.
