jb (789), Rochester, New York, USA Aug 31, 2008 Orange bourbonesque look to this, with a thin head. Many aromas. Bananas, dried dark fruit, brown sugar, a somewhat sour yeasty aroma. Palate is many things all at once. Tingly with small bubbles, sweet, sour, dry, how can it be sweet and dry? Layers of taste with the sugar winning sometimes and the delicate hops other times. Very well made. Very much like the doppelbock style though I doubt any of those are at 12%abv.
ScottB (56), Jacksonville, Florida, USA Jan 3, 2009 Bottled in APR 07. Pours a clear amber. Off-white head quickly dissipates leaving a bit of lace around the outside of the glass. Big fruity aroma. Dark fruit and spice in the mouth. The alcohol makes its presence known but is not unpleasant. Chipper (105), Red Lion, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 27, 2008 Dark amber color with a big off white head. Very fruity and spicy aroma. Flavor is hugely complex with lots of fruit, spice, and a hint of hops. Lingering finish. Great stuff. Taverner (553), San Ramon, California, USA Dec 14, 2008 Updated: Dec 15, 2008Smells like apple cider on a hot summer day. Tastes like a mix of that cider, and the smell from a mountain pass in th middle of summer. A perfect themed Belgian Ale! mwelsh13 (262), Maryland, USA Oct 31, 2008 Medium brown orange color with a white head. Citrus aroma, caramel, and some yeast. Medium body with alot going on. Alcohol is very present and lends alot of heat to the beer. Want to age some to see what happens. Jsawyer (61), , Pennsylvania, USA Oct 27, 2008 Bottled 8/29/08. Pours clear amber with a thick head that subsides quickly but still provides nice lacing. Bouquet is pear, apricot, raisin, citric hops, and spicy yeast. Flavor is pear, raisin, maple, sweet malt, citric hops, spicy yeast, and alcohol. Very warming. Doesn’t cover the alcohol very well but seems like it would be a great beer to age since it is so strong. Solid beer.
