dukefan (165), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 11, 2004 I found this beer to be almost painfully too high in alcohol. While much of the Belgian flavors do work your way through, you somehow feel like you are drinking a fancy "boilermaker". As a huge Belgian and Victory fan, I was expecting better.
hillfiiiiire (211), Atoka, Tennessee, USA Oct 10, 2008 Copper color with some floaties going on. Aroma is the caramelizing of sugar as you heat it in a stovepan. Flavor is quite peppery and a mildly annoying hop presence. It all turns out all right though. Finishes dry. Okay beer. ketchepillar (279), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Oct 10, 2008 It’s alright. Malt is rather sweet and sugary-decent. Too much alcohol. Rather harsh. Finishes remarkably dry. Pepper. Lighter fruits. crowderm (182), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Oct 10, 2008 Dark amber pour, with a lively lingering white head. Aroma is burnt sugar sweet, malt, and strawberries. Flavor is berries, alcohol, pepper and caramel. Pretty intense stuff. The mouthfeel is the standout here - full bodied, yet crisp and clean. Solid overall. 17thfloor (728), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 6, 2008 Pours a dark amber with a large cola-like head. Fruity spicy yeasty aroma with a bit of alcohol and slight raspberry. Interesting play on Belgian flavors, yeasty with malt that is toasted, slightly burnt and a bit sour, with this unique hard-candy understated sweetness. Burnt toast and raspberry hard-candy finish with some lasting bitter yeast. This stuff is so odd and yea it does remind me a bit of a triple. Very light sticky body with abrasive carbonation. So strange... almost like a "Belgian" ESB or maybe Southern Comfort diluted with Rolling Rock, yup, thats it. Whiskeyjack (10), , Massachusetts, USA Oct 4, 2008 crisp hop aroma, clear citrus note. Pours a sightly hazy amber brown, with a nice tan head. Well carbonated. Delicious balance of sweet & bitter. Has a nice caramel finish leaves the mouth with velvety feeling. This is a powerful beer that will pleasantly surprise with its balance and flavour.
