Golden Monkey aged in Chardonnay barrels. “Our Golden Monkey is beloved by many, so we anticipate some heartfelt responses to our intriguing transformation of this beer,” expressed Victory brewmaster Bill Covaleski. “The wine barrel aging has had a substantial and delicious impact on the Golden Monkey.” Approximately 100 oak barrels that once held chardonnay varietal white wine from Wente Vineyards of Livermore, CA were filled with Golden Monkey and aged at ambient temperatures in the Downingtown brewery for 3 months. This process is an extension of an experiment dating back 6 years prior, when a single oak barrel once holding white wine from local vintner, Chaddsford Winery, was used in a similar manner to produce a test batch which never left the brewery. Deemed delicious by Victory brewmasters and brewing staff, the White Monkey project was made possible through a collaborative partnership with Wente Vineyards.

(750ML bottle) clear gold, effervescent lingering head that eventually dissipated rather quickly. Nose of peach, belgian spicy yeast, bit of alcohol, apricot and other stone fruits, white wine and oak; a good tripel. Taste is light oak, Belgian yeast, a bit spicy reminiscent of a true Belgian tripel, apricot, heavy on the chardonnay, peach. Effervescent finish that is a little sweet, spicy and fairly drinkable given the ABV.

A spicy nose with a little barnyard funk to begin with. A deep cloudy golden pour with a grainy white ring and no lacing. The taste is slightly bitter. Spicey (pepper), with hints of fruit, malt,y and wood. There is also some notes of alcohol in the finish and nice bitter aftertaste. Medium-light body with medium carbonation. Overall, an enjoyable Tripel.

Aroma like a freshly snapped oak sapling. Golden amber in color. All the citrusy crisp fruit luscious ness of a Monkey but with an added dry oaky bitterness in the finish. Ridiculously smooth and refreshing! I must stop writing this review and savor this delicious beer!!!! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

As if the Monkey weren't awesome enough, they come out with this! What a wonderful beer. All the complex spice flavors of Golden Monkey already make it extra-dimensional. The addition of oak and Chardonnay overtones make White Monkey shift you into a universe only comprehended by string theory physicists. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750ml bottle - $7.99 at Bullock’s Wine & Spirits in Woodstock, Georgia.

Bottled On: Feb 13 2013.

Alright, alright, so, maybe I wasn’t the biggest fan of Golden Monkey, but, with this new release I’m ready to mend that broken bridge from the past. Surely, my plunking down eight bucks is a show of good faith.

Appearance: Pours a hazed, pale golden body with a foamy, white head that fell flat moments later.

Smell: Spice-driven aromatics, as was the way of G-Monkey, still with hints of flowers, mold, bananas, and grains. Now, with some additional vanilla-hinted oak notes.

Taste: Spicy and now staunchly oaky from the onset, with a screeching monkey-flung dose of pepper, clove, coriander, and, now, blunt tannins. Touch of fresh lemon juice, yeast dough malt aspects, ’nanas, and alcohol washed mini oak planks. Yet, it still feels out of step, like an inept marching band. Spicy, lightly bitterish, lightly warming, lightly oaken finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Tongue-coating mouthfeel.

Overall: I think I’m good on the Monkey for another good, long while, thanks.

I love golden monkey. Chardonnay plus golden monkey doesn’t begin to do justice to this beer, however. There is less oak and vanilla imparted to the wort than wine and floral characteristics. The aging really brings up the floral notes, which are delicious. Lots of alcohol doesn’t hurt, either, and for me this has always been one of the finest treatments of high alcohol in a Belgian ale brewed in the U.S. Something tells me the yeast used here is pretty special, and it tastes special. Memorable and very well done.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s Fort Collins. Pours a hazy golden orange appearance with a creamy colored head. Chardonnay, white grape, banana, pear, spicy, a touch buttery, oaky aroma. Slightly tangy, chewy woody, apple, pear, white grape, light veggie, fairly buttery flavor. Not very good.

Aromas of flora, crab apple, golden raisins, yeast, golden earth, and a mild nuttiness. Clear golden-orange with a lasting, white head. Dry, very fruity, with flavors of peach, banana, and coconut. Light-medium body, spicy, and finishes with lingering fruit and floral notes.
