Golden Monkey aged in Chardonnay barrels. “Our Golden Monkey is beloved by many, so we anticipate some heartfelt responses to our intriguing transformation of this beer,” expressed Victory brewmaster Bill Covaleski. “The wine barrel aging has had a substantial and delicious impact on the Golden Monkey.” Approximately 100 oak barrels that once held chardonnay varietal white wine from Wente Vineyards of Livermore, CA were filled with Golden Monkey and aged at ambient temperatures in the Downingtown brewery for 3 months. This process is an extension of an experiment dating back 6 years prior, when a single oak barrel once holding white wine from local vintner, Chaddsford Winery, was used in a similar manner to produce a test batch which never left the brewery. Deemed delicious by Victory brewmasters and brewing staff, the White Monkey project was made possible through a collaborative partnership with Wente Vineyards.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden color with a foamy white head. Notes of funk, oak, banana, white vinegar, and white pepper. Sweet and sour mouthfeel. Lingering finish. Nice.

750ml bottle: This one pours a hazy, golden color. There was just a wisp of a white head on mine that didn’t leave any lacing. Nice nose to this one! The wine has had a big influence, as there is a good whiff of chardonnay as well as some oakiness. Just coming through is the coriander, lemon and some lemon. It has a very nice flavor. Definitely get the chardonnay flavor. The golden monkey is there also, with some lemon, coriander, yeastiness and wheat. The wine flavor almost equals the beer. I like the way they are balanced. Definitely on the buy again list!

Clear light golden yellow pour with almost no head. Wine grape and melon nose. Taste has a hint of oak, sweet, just a touch phenolic and a hint of wine.

Poured from 750ml C&C bottle, pours a dark gold with a thick white head and tons of lacing in the glass, aroma has a good amount of white wine and fruit with a little bit of spice as well, the flavor has a fruity front end with quite a bit of vanilla and oak, tons of stuff going on here, abv is still well hidden, not bad at all.

Well priced for a 750ml Tripel. My thought was that the scent had a bit of bourbon on it. Perhaps I am mistaking oak for bourbon. Flavor is sweet with a boozy earthiness. Golden with perfect white head. Live to the tongue. Bottle - Sherlock’s - Decatur, GA

Pours amber-gold with a medium white head. Aroma is yeast, oak barrel, faint alcohol, spices and maybe a little tobacco. Taste is clean with a nice wine-like overtone. The yeast is well hidden with a spicy clove finish.

Wine fruitiness prevalent in the aroma. Light golden color with a slight haze and quickly fading head. Flavor is dominated by buttery tannins. It's a good sipping beer and a wonderful way to experience barrel aging.

Poured into Trappist glass. Golden with a finger of white head. Smells like white wine, fruity, and yeast. Taste very vinous! I get also the yeast. Nice and light and a great amount of carbonation. This stuff is great for wine drinkers! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
