COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Golden Monkey aged in Chardonnay barrels. “Our Golden Monkey is beloved by many, so we anticipate some heartfelt responses to our intriguing transformation of this beer,” expressed Victory brewmaster Bill Covaleski. “The wine barrel aging has had a substantial and delicious impact on the Golden Monkey.” Approximately 100 oak barrels that once held chardonnay varietal white wine from Wente Vineyards of Livermore, CA were filled with Golden Monkey and aged at ambient temperatures in the Downingtown brewery for 3 months. This process is an extension of an experiment dating back 6 years prior, when a single oak barrel once holding white wine from local vintner, Chaddsford Winery, was used in a similar manner to produce a test batch which never left the brewery. Deemed delicious by Victory brewmasters and brewing staff, the White Monkey project was made possible through a collaborative partnership with Wente Vineyards.

750 mL bottle - pours orange gold, shading towards tawny. Small bubbly white head, not really lasting. Aromas of vanilla cream, barnyard pepper, spice, and yeasty funk. Bananas with a hint of lemon zest. Taste is cool, with round white grape notes, moving into cooler fruit, with finish that is all oak and vanilla. Supple body. Round nose. Mellow, finishes dry. Pretty good take, though it seems a bit brutal to oak a Belgian-style golden.

Poured a medium yellow with a thin whispy head. Faint nose of spice. The aging in the barrels has softened the beer in nearly all aspects- nose, flavour and palate.

Pours clear golden color with next to no head. Nose has plenty of white grapes, banana, estery and citrusy notes and a hint of oak. Fairly sweet taste, lots of grape/wine flavors, oaky, hint of vanilla, mildly spicy and estery and grainy. Medium mouthfeel and just enough carbonation to not be flat. Interesting idea, a little too sweet for me. I’d rather have a regular golden monkey.

750ml bottle. White wine barrel nose. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Bigger body. Clear golden color. Some particles in the last pour, with minimal head and lace. Pretty much no head. Banana, white grape, light wood work well together. Nice, lightly citrusy yeast notes. Sweeter taste, light alcohol warmth in the finish, but not bad at all, kind of nice. Like the kind of alcohol note you’d get in a pasta sauce with a solid white wine addition. Nothing incredible, but solid, interesting stuff. Barrel-aged Golden Monkey, a classic affordable midwestern tripel, was certainly worth trying once

750 mL corked bottle. Floaty-infested, "golden" pour with a white head. Aroma is overpowering oak combined with nail polish remover, with some light fruitiness. Flavor is more oak and nail polish, with a dry oaky finish that doesn’t linger, with a boozy burn at the very end. It’s pretty good, but about 4 oz of this beer is plenty.

750 ml bottle. This beer is out there. It’s something I would expect from dogfishhead because its seriously complex. The aroma is intense and I have not smelled much like it. The best way to describe it is earthy. The flavor is a tripel with a white wine grape palate. If I’m honest and I don’t let the price get the best of me, the two flavors do not meld very well. There is an intense white wine grape mouth feel followed with the tripel flavor at the end. The golden monkey is one of my favorite tripels and this beer just takes too much away from the original golden monkey. The beer is flat too. There is very little carbonation. I like experimenting and trying new things and that’s why I chose it, but honestly I would prefer to just drink two or three golden monkeys. Good brew, but odd.

Aroma of white wine mostly. Some of the golden monkey shines though. Pours a reddish orange. Not much in terms of carbonation. A bit thin in the mouth feel. Taste is alcoholic. I think I’ll stick to the normal Golden Monkey.

Pours with a thin white head. Golden color. Well carbonated. Lots of fruity aromas and flavors. Nice and dry. Defiantly aged well in the barrel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
