COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Golden Monkey aged in Chardonnay barrels. “Our Golden Monkey is beloved by many, so we anticipate some heartfelt responses to our intriguing transformation of this beer,” expressed Victory brewmaster Bill Covaleski. “The wine barrel aging has had a substantial and delicious impact on the Golden Monkey.” Approximately 100 oak barrels that once held chardonnay varietal white wine from Wente Vineyards of Livermore, CA were filled with Golden Monkey and aged at ambient temperatures in the Downingtown brewery for 3 months. This process is an extension of an experiment dating back 6 years prior, when a single oak barrel once holding white wine from local vintner, Chaddsford Winery, was used in a similar manner to produce a test batch which never left the brewery. Deemed delicious by Victory brewmasters and brewing staff, the White Monkey project was made possible through a collaborative partnership with Wente Vineyards.

I’ve had the golden monkey many times before. The wine barrel aging did this one well. Mellows out the fruity, banana-y flavors and adds a nice wood characteristic to it. Really good take on a tripel.

750mL bottle. Poured crystal-clear, honeyed-golden with a short white head.. great color, but the whole presentation was just OK. The aroma picked up lots of almost syrupy vinous character paired with honey, cloves, and a hint of butterscotch.. soft oak rounded it out.. came across a bit heavy-handed and weird. The flavor found mostly honey at the core, with lesser bready support.. spicy white wine paired well with white pepper, cloves, and meaty lemon rind.. kind of tacky on the finish, with residual spices, oak, and unexpected bitterness. Heavier-bodied and slightly grainy on the palate.. I wanted to like this, but it didn’t really work.

Light gold color. It ha an amazing aroma if cream soda. It has a slightly mild smokey sweet flavor. Oak and spice come through also. Really really well done all around. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750ml corked and caged bottle. The Wine barreling made this a nice and refreshing yet high-gravity brew.

Bottle. Aroma is oak, fruit esters, and some spice. Appearance is copper with a white head. Good clarity. Taste is super oaky, spice, banana, and some clove. Light body, decent carbonation, and a dry finish. Overall pretty good but heavy on the oak.

Bottle pours a crystal clear dark gold. Moderate white head that quickly recedes. Aroma of yeast and oak. Tastes light and faintly fruity with notes of coconut and oak. Thin and light mouthfeel. Very tasty.

Growler to glass. Golden Amber pour with a thin white head. Nose is belgian yeast with grapes and some wine. Taste is a decent tripel, a little light in body with a nice white wine grape finish. Some oak and booze in the finish.

Bottle. Apple juice color, shiny. Buttery movie theater popcorn taste with juicy peach and white wine notes. My first true experience tasting an infected bottle. Syrupy buttery mouthfeel. I wish this wasn’t infected because it’s probably very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Clear dark gold with a thin ring of white head and active carbonation. Aroma is peach, white wine and oak. Taste opens with a nice peach note and then gets overtaken by a massive wave of diacetyl. Bummer. Alcohol is very present in the finish. Medium mouthfeel with light carbonation. Will look to try this again hopefully sans infection.

Pours clear and golden thin white foamy head, mild lacing. Has an aroma of white wine, slight funk, and yeast. Slight sting like it’s cousin golden monkey from the alcohol. No lingering burn. Palate evens out to dry fruit and coriander and spice. No notable vanilla flavors.
