3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Total Wine Sterling. Pours golden with an inch of white foam that disappears quickly. Big white wine notes on the nose. Lots of wine character on the.tongue which really brings out the hoppiness. Finishes clean. Solid!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from TWM Sterling - pours golden orange with a white head, great lacing on the glass. Aroma has notes of tropical fruit, wheat and malt. Taste is sweet with a hoppy bite at the finish. Overall, the wine aging seems to have mellowed it, but still leaving some interesting notes.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hazy golden color topped by a thin white head. Aroma of oak, white grapes, and doughy yeast. Bready malts, some herbal hops, light oaky tannins and just a hint of acidity. A bit of fruity yeast esters come through in the finish.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Corked and caged big ’un. Nose is lightly yeasty (with distinct Belgian mineral quality), sweet and hugely fruity, and I mean huuugely fruity out of the bottle, ripe and berrilicious, with strong oak and light white grape character, lighter vanilla. Some honey. Pours a hazy yellow-golden with a scant white head. Taste somewhat dry with white wine, vanilla, muscat, oak, pine, and a lot of heavy tannins. Light bitterness, skinny (as in ’from skins’), pleasant Pilsnerish malt on the underside and a touch of caramel. The fruit is peeled way back and cedes almost all of its territory to the barrel character. Faint spicy undertone, crisp and zesty full body. Alcohol is very well integrated. I think most people would enjoy the base version of this beer more, though as an example of what is possible, this is still pretty tasty (I’d just reduce the aging, or blend this in with ’base’ Monkey), and it’s a pleasantly adult turn.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs; thanks watson1977). Looks good; a hazy burnt-orange with sticky white lacing. Smells and tastes solid; sweet and light with a clear Chardonnay barrel presence and a nice mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml from Spirits Fischer Blvd. Poured a nice bronze body with some rising effervescence with a normal sized almost creamy white head. Aroma is very woody, dry tropical fruits, apricot, over ripe banana, bread crusts, grains and some light white wine. Body is rather nice, medium mouthfeel that finishes dry with just a slight touch of alcohol heat that comes out midway, average carbonation and a slight woody feel. Flavor is much like the aroma where the wine barrel aging added more wood than wine. Additional flavors of dry tropical fruit skins, banana peel, wood, some white wine. I like it, I like it a lot.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Meh... a very average beer. I actually prefer the regular version over this but I am glad I tried it. Aroma was weak. Could pick out a slight funk and Belgian yeast but it wasn’t very strong. Pour was a hazy medium gold with a thin white ring for a head. Taste was alright. The wood and white wine flavors overpower any other flavor in the beer. Not a terrible thing, but it’s too strong. Tastes more like a lightly carbonated white wine.Carbonation should be a lot stronger. Very interesting but not great

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled February 14, 2013.
Appearance: The body is perfectly clear with an amber hue. The head is near white with a good size and decent retention. The head settles somewhat quickly into a messy coating.
Aroma: On the pour the nose was primarily a dry oak and chardonnay aroma, prominent but weak. Swirling it in the glass adds banana and cloves to the aroma in equal strength to the barrel notes with a light honey sweetness.
Taste: This drinks much better than the nose indicates. Sweet honey underlies a peppery, oaky, and dry, yet fruity, blend. This has good complexity, it has sweet wine like characteristics of a moscato with the honey underlying, the spiciness of a triple, and the dry and oaked characteristics of a chardonnay. Well done.
Palate: Medium bodied, a bit syrupy, with light carbonation.
Overall: This is my favorite barrel aged Victory beer yet. I love the complexity and the play of the sweet and dry characteristics. I’m going to try to find another bottle.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours dark gold with a good head that dies fast and leaves pretty good lacing behind. Aroma is very nice, boozy, spicy typical tripel aromas, grape aroma from the barrel i assume, smells delicious. Taste..... was a bit of a disappointment, it has good qualities, but it lacks in a way, a little bit of spice, over ripened banana, faint oak, palate is not to my liking. i really see a good beer here, it jjust needs a little adjustment.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Golden orange pour with white head. Light Belgian and hints of oaks and fruit aromas. Flavor doesn’t differ from golden monkey, may be a little more subtle.
