750ml caged&corked bottle. Pours amber with decent clarity and a very large, fluffy off-white/tan head. The aroma is exactly as promised - Hop Devil with brett character. It has a very nice splash of citrus/fruity hops with a subtle earthy character, some doughy and caramel malt notes, and an interesting dash of plum pie. The flavor follows the aroma: interesting grainy and sweet malt notes blend with delectable American hops and a funky, earthy, grassy brett character. The finish is firmly bittered but pleasant with a nice, dry, bready and spicy flavor that has a distinct (though mild) brett tinge. The mouthfeel is luxurious - crisply carbonated with a smooth and luscious body. Overall, a frikkin’ fantastic Belgian IPA. Rock-solid, delicious, and drinkable.

Big explosion in the bottle, strong sour smell. Big beige head, cloudy caramel color. Flat English flavor, balanced but pretty lame,

On draft at the brewery. Nice thick white head. Nice Belgian Orval like taste. Compliments the hops nice.

Bottle. Pours a darker gold with a massive white head, good retention/lace. Aroma of old piney hops, citrus, dust, soap. Taste is quite soapy, dusty, pine hop bitterness, light caramel. Palate is slick, sharp carbonation, bitter finish. Definitely a weird one.

Pours a murky golden with massive head. Literally had to wait 2 hours to pour a solid glass. Aromas of Belgian yeast, floral, sour, funky basement aromas, sour fruit and Brett. Initial flavor is sweet and floral then heads into a more sour note finishing with a back of the tongue bitterness. Spicy hops, fruity, yeast and Belgian-esque. It’s hard to put a finger on all the flavors. Solid beer. Definitely different and definitely worth a try.

Bottle brought out by Tom Cadden to share - cheers mate. Hazy gold beer, good cream coloured head. Light crisp palate. Light fruity hops. A little chesnut mushroom! Very mild citrus. Semi dry finish.

From notes. First reviewed 7/1/2010. Poured from a 750 mL caged and corked bottle into a tulip. A forceful pop when I opened the cork led me to immediately know how carbonated this would be. The first pour was nearly all foam, of the off-white sea foam kind. After letting it sit for a while, each swirl refreshes to a nice level head. Dark apricot / amber color. Floral notes and Belgian funk are the first two things I notice in the aroma. Some lemony citrus as well. The taste starts off noticeably dry, with a pale malt presence quickly ceding control to a stronger Belgian funk, as a result of the Brett. There is an earthy taste in here, but the hops provide some juicy grapefruit with bits of earthiness and pine. At first there is a champagne-like carbonation and dryness, with a juicy bite from the hops toward the end. It feels overcarbonated. This Belgian IPA forgoes some balance for a more hoppy taste, and although it is not bad, it is not my favorite. Aging it to get more flavor from the wild fermentation would only reduce the hop profile, so I am not really sure if there is a better aging period for this or not.

Cloudy coppery orange with a two inch beige cap. Lots of clumpy lacing, good head retention. Interesting aroma, ripe fruits, pineapple and citrus, earthy and grassy, faint tartness. Moderate bitterness that grew to become fairly sharp over a few sips, with more tropical fruit sweetness. Notes of funk, minerals, and berries, a bit medicinal with very faint rubbery/plastic flavour.

wild devil. amber with small head. aroma sour funky and some tannin woodiness. some spicy hops. flavor of soapy belgoim hops and some fruit. some spice in the finish. tea like and herbal.

Thanks for the warnings about the cork. I opened my bottle in the shower stall just in case and managed not to put an eye out. This is my first sampling of a "sour ale" and will be my last. I had to pour it after toughing out a few ounces. This stuff was nasty.

2+ year old bottle. BEWARE!!! If you are opening an older bottle of this stuff, be careful. Put a towel over the cork when you open it! This bottle freaking exploded. I was being somewhat careful (I’m a sommelier), but not careful enough (I was drunk). After the cork left the bottle like a rocket and took off a chunk of the ceiling, the foam monster ensued. Pouring for three people, we each got an over foamed portion. More than half the beer was foam. Each glass tasted completely different. Tough to rate on flavor here. Lots of Brett. It was ok in flavor but not great. I’ll never forget it though.
